Why wear flip-flops in cold weather?

Recently I've noticed people (especially young woman and a few older ones, too) wearing sandals and flip-flops in public places (church, grocery, etc.). I probably wouldn't even notice that in summer, but it's getting cold here in the northern US with temps sometimes not getting much above mid-40s (that's single digit temps for those using Celsius). I just wonder if their feet don't get cold and why not wear some more substantial shoes in cold weather.

I wear Birkenstock sandals in the winter, but usually with socks. I'm a fashion "don't." :D

Sometimes it is because your feet are so sensitive from peripheral neuropathy that they hurt . Hurt too bad to put on 'shoes' sometimes even just socks.

I'm not a big fan of flip-flops. I have a couple pairs but haven't worn them in awhile. They're okay after a swim or shower, but they're dangerous for driving and going up/down stairs.

Most people don't have attractive feet even after a pedicure.

I've seen people wear flip-flops in cold weather. What adults want to wear on their feet is their business. I might think it's silly and unattractive, but it's not something I worry about.

In my area, I see people wearing inexpensive open toe terry spa slippers from the $tore when they are out and about.

Be thankful that you have warm comfortable shoes to wear.

I'm like Applecruncher, not a big fan of flip flops (we always called them thongs when I was young). I keep a pair in the garage to slip into for stepping out into the back yard, but never wear them out walking or driving. In fact, I just had them on when I went out to see if I needed to pick up after the dog and we have a small slope near the back fence and it's hard to walk with them on uneven ground, that's for sure.

People wear them or sandals in winter time by me too, it doesn't bother me at all, but I wouldn't do it. Folks wear them because they're comfy, easy and quick to slip on, and I figure most of those people wear them all summer long too, so they're used to wearing them.

Usually I wear sneakers for all seasons, but if there's snow on the ground I wear hiking boots.

As with most things, I don't concern myself with what other people do or why they choose to do it. I have enough to do taking care of my own business.

If I want to wear flip-flops, I will. We don't get a lot of freezing weather on the Gulf Coast so I wear sandals in the fall/winter fairly often. If people don't like it, I have some advice for them. :eek:nthego:

This is how I feel also. What others wear is none of my business nor do I really care.
I don’t personally like flip flops.

Birkenstocks are the closest I’ll get to them but we live in the snow belt so wearing any type of sandal in winter is CRAZY. I can’t stand that piece going between the toes and flip flops don’t fit very securely. Being super active, they don’t work for me.

Some people wear shoes like these due to having athletes foot. Some people’s feet sweat too much which causes itchy feet and eventually fungus ( athletes foot ). I guess sandals allow their feet to breathe.

Like Sunny, I wear flip flops at the beach, and occasionally I wear them in the garden because they're easy to kick off at the door as I come back in . However mainly I wear skechers or sandals during summer, and both ankle boots and knee highs in winter. It would never cross my mind to wear flip flops in cold weather

Rubber slippers (which on the mainland is called "flip-flops) is just normal wear here year-around. And, oh, never wear outside shoes in the house. That's a big fat a no-no.
