This morning started with Sadie (Bernese Mountain Dog started barking Non-stop before 4:am until after 5:am when we got up. I can tolerate sporadic barking but Sadie barks non-stop assumably to wake us up and to come downstairs visibly to her sight. I am wearing swimmers earplugs to decrease the sound volumn entering into my ears.

My wife and I met and eloped in 1979 leaving Georgia for New York State to visit her parents. We bought a heavy galvanized plastic tarp from K-mart with only $200 to our name we traveled from New York to Salt Lake City, Utah to stay with her brother. Which didn’t last long before we were on the road again returning from whilst we started in the Southern State of Georgia.

I checked into the hospital to regroup my thoughts while my girlfriend/wife stayed with a mutual friend. I got a call from my girlfriend/wife stating she was pregnant. I checked myself out of the hospital AMA and we moved into the apartment complex where I lived after high school.

I got a job training for geriatric orderly and was sitting in class when my wife called to say her water broke. We were poor and so we went through an adoption agency for the birth at lower cost than individual care would have provided. We took Lamaze classes because after all this was our first child and we wanted everything to be just right for mother and daughter.

It was either with our first daughter or our second daughter the circumstances were similar except on the way to Atlanta for prenatal checkup. When I drove over railroad tracks at the crossing I heard something. However, because we had a ways to drive before the appointment I paid it no mind because the car seemed to be working ok.

After the appointment I noticed several emergency vehicles, fire engines and police cars across the road where I parked my car. As if by fate and good luck a tow truck with my car was exiting the parking garage in time for the driver to give us a ride back home with car in tow. Evidently, the bump I heard crossing the tracks punctured my gas tank and it was leaking gasoline in the parking garage.

At the clinic, it took a while for my wife’s appointment, yet it was perfecting timing to catch a ride home with car in tow. The distance from our apartment to the clinic was more than 30 miles oneway, if we had not left the clinic in time to speak to the tow truck driver we would be stranded in downtown Atlanta not knowing what happened.

Happy Anniversary!
