Wildfire Raging In Ocean County (Southern) New Jersey

The fire is no where near us; it's further south. In just 24 hours, 12,500 acres were burned and 5,000 residents were forced to evacuate and evacuation orders have since been lifted. At least it is 40% contained. As of last night, it was only 10%. Part of the N.J. Parkway, a major highway that runs through the state, had to be shut down and has since reopened. But there are warnings of thick smoke impacting visibility, something I hope has cleared before my son heads down that way pn Friday afternoon. Parts of N.J., N.Y. and PA are being warned about air quality alerts. I have not noticed any smoke, nor do I smell smoke.

Thank God, so far no fatalities have been reported. The first link has better video footage and more extensive "live" reporting.

I live in Pa., next to the N.J. border. While the fires are way down state, the storms we had in the winter really ravaged the trees, there are fallen limbs all over. It's like there's a blanket of fallen limbs throughout the forest. When I was getting all the branches and limbs from my place, I saw the blanket of broken limbs in the forest around me. thought that just one spark and a huge fire. Then I came in and heard about the N.J. fire.

I have been reading about this, too. It is good that they found and arrested this person for starting the fires and charged him with aggravated arson for what he did.
Some of the fires in California had been started by arsonists also, and these fires destroy so much land, kill wildlife, burn homes, and often people also lose their lives.
This negligence needs to stop.

Will anything come of it? I doubt it.

A bonfire? Never got bonfires or fire pits. The same people that use also make smokers go outside their home and yet will sit right beside or near an outdoor fire with all smoke and smells. They think if smoke is outside it's less harmful or something.

And that's the excuse. There's a arsonist out there now hoping one day to top the fires in California, NJ or where ever.

I spent a few months in Cape May back in 1953. Not particularly enjoyable - - Coast Guard Boot Camp.:(
I went to Cape May once on a bus ride. After hearing so much about it, I was disappointed, so never went back. There are other Jersey shore towns I like much better.

Will anything come of it? I doubt it.
Why in heaven's name do you think nothing will come of it?! Arson is a very serious crime and the perp is considered an adult. He caused millions in damages and at least one man's livelihood. Poor fellow business burned to the ground. He said 5 million worth of product was lost. Hope he has real good insurance. That young arsonist is lucky nobody died. This is on track to be the largest fire in N.J. in 20 years.

I have a friend who lives in Whiting, NJ. He Emailed me today to say that the fire was brought under control from spreading to his neighborhood just a few miles away. He was afraid they'd have to evacuate.
Hopefully they are and will stay safe Doc. That must've been very, very scary! I'm glad they got it under control, last I saw it was only 50%.
