Winking and whistling. Acceptable and non acceptable.

When I drift back in my mind through the mists of time, to when I was a young fella dating a girl called Jenny, I remember meeting her in a pub at lunchtime. She walked into the pub, sat down beside me and told of the many whistles from road-workers she had to endure whilst walking to the pub.
"Jenny," I said to her, "Come over to that big mirror on the wall, take a good look at yourself, you are truly gorgeous, and those blokes have eyes and let you know how gorgeous you are by whistling, nothing insulting, just overpowering admiration for the beauty that you are."
"I'll walk back that way after lunch, Tim," she said with a big smile on her face. 😊

Is it worth a possible arrest?

I knew your position was based upon more recent corporate policies (and laws) aimed at reducing the potential for lawsuits. That's why we see such a reduction in the number of times this behavior is exhibited.

So when you came on strong, I understood.

I've been out with construction crews in the downtown area and it's not hard to understand why a crew might whistle.

Sometimes these guys are just standing around with nothing better to do and the downtown ladies are dressed up for work and look their best.

I never personally saw anyone whistle but some guys never stop noticing those women coming and going.

Anwink from a mature woman often signifies confidence, playfulness, and a direct, flirtatious interest. It is a bold, positive sign indicating she finds you attractive and is likely inviting you to connect, or it can be a friendly, witty gesture signifying shared understanding or a secret, lighthearted joke between you both.

What this does bring to mind is that I see pretty girls all the time with construction guys around, or cars with young fellows going by, and not a peep. I think over here it is considered so politically incorrect so it just doesn't happen anymore. I think it's a shame, I thought it was kind of fun to be whistled at, or called to like, Hey, good looking.... sigh, those were the good old days.

I try to have class so no whistling, ever.
LOL My sister and BIL and nephews were once on a holiday in Greece with their friends and kids. They made a movie. The other couple played the posh couple and they were the trashy couple. LOL In the movie my nephews, normally very well mannered, were whistling at their daughters. They were teens. It was hilarious to see.

Yes it used to be innocent, but now, if you hear these young girls complain, that's disgusting. They say stuff like: hey slut. Get angry when she doesn't respond.

Is that why they call it catcalling? It sounds like you call the cat.
I once got a warning on an American christian forum. It's a normal word for the cat here.

Epistle about the cat, 2 pages. My neighbour lost her cat, so she opened the door and called: poes poes poes seop seop (he keeps the page upside down).

I was whistled at and winked at rather often. It was never done maliciously, nor did I take umbrage. Sometimes I'd whistle and wink back and we all had a good laugh. Today's over sensitive generations have no sense of humor.

Of course, if obscene gestures accompanied a wink or a whistle, then I'd do something about that. Thankfully, it never happened in my day.
