Without saying your age…..

Pay the milkman on Friday when he calls....

MilkDeliveryshutterstock_65402674.jpg

Somewhere on the web (maybe Youtube) I was listening to the 'Yes' song 'Harold Land'. It contained the line.. "He paid his bills and stopped the milk" to which someone asked what did "stopping the milk" mean?

Try to get your medical records -- impossible

Try to find out what was sent to the depository for everyone's medical records; this was accessed by insurance companies. Impossible

As a matter of fact, if I were suing because of an automobile accident, ONLY my lawyer could obtain them; I couldn't.

As a woman who got married, try to keep my credit card -- nope.

Try to get birth control or an abortion -- only illegally (hmmm.... maybe people today will understand that)

Try to get jobs or go to universities or hotels, etc. when there were no anti-discrimination laws against all sorts of groups

Was talking with my wife about this thread and we had a nice trip down memory lane. A few more things:

Neighborhood grocery stores, and being able to put something on your parent's account. Trading stamps given out when you bought groceries at a big store.

Burn barrels in the back yard.

Curb feelers on cars.

Having to take the buff & white cards home from school for your parents to fill out.

Ash trays everywhere, including the waiting room of the doctor's office.

Waiting in line on a Sunday to get oral polio vaccine.

Hippy Dippy Water "guns".

Iodine, mercurochrome, and methiolate.

Having to fill out cards, in duplicate, for each book borrowed from a library.

Being able to borrow books for your own town's library and nowhere else.

Sunday Blue Laws

Saying the "Lord's Prayer" in school every day no matter what your religion or none

Three weeks worth of Christmas carols in all language classes

Having Christian children leave school to go to religion classes at churches during school time, leaving everyone else to do not much of anything

(I now do volunteer work for the separation of religion and government)

on sunday blue laws. before FM radio... sunday was CHURCH programming till mybe 1-2:00 in afternoon. then they'd switch over to pop/rock&roll music.

why don't cars still have them?
Because they were a great way of getting an air supply while not getting rained on most of the time. Why else would they be eliminated? :( Seriously, it seems to me that every time we get an update to a computer program, the program loses something that made it so much easier to use!

Taking tubes to the drug store to use the tester.
TV tubes, right. dad had a cardboard box with a wide variety of tubes. trained in TV repair... hell, no! he would take the back off the set and then one-by-one pulling out one and checking with one he knew was good. oh, he never unplugged nor turned off the set. are there even TV repairmen anymore?

They came in sizes 8 and 4... needed washed, they needed sterilizing, they needed heated, a little water, a small pot, but be careful not to break them.
no clue?? you will eventually tell, right?
