Kids wouldn’t understand referencing a phone booth where you could physically enter, close a door, and use a pay phone into which you deposited actual coins before you could make a call. They usually included thick paper phone books where you could look up numbers you didn’t know...

There's a student in my high school graduating class that has a tattoo and may not be allowed to attend the ceremony.
My steady girl wraps my ring in angora so it will fit here finger.
 
With ring and rubber end, we gave them a quick rinse when baby dropped them, and we weren't afraid to dip them in honey to help keep baby soothed.
 
If you had babies in the home, they were a household staple back in the day... soft plastic/vinyl with stretchy elastics, up and down and on and off they went all day long... made a little ones bottom look poufy, and prevented wet pyjama bottoms and crib mattresses (and laps).
 
They were sharp, pointed, had a big safety cap on one end, and if you weren't careful when changing baby, they were sure to give you an OUCH!
