Woman, 20, Dies During Hot Dog Eating Contest

She was only 20. I doubt she was a professional. Gorging the body with anything not the greatest of moves. They make it look easy on TV but many of those contestants eat and/or "train" like that year round. Tragic because it was for charity.

That being said those contests are disgusting and disheartening as noted.

I recalled a radio contest where another woman died after drinking 3 gallons of water.

A 28-year-old woman died of water intoxication after taking part in a radio station's water drinking contest to win a Nintendo Wii video game system, the coroner's office said.

Assistant Sacramento County Coroner Ed Smith said Saturday a preliminary investigation found evidence "consistent with a water intoxication death."
Jennifer Strange's mother found her daughter's body at her home Friday in the Sacramento suburb of Rancho Cordova, California, after Strange called her supervisor at her job to say she was heading home in terrible pain.

Call me a grumpy ole' guy but I think eating contests are totally stupid. I don't care if they are hot dogs, pies or whatever. What is the point other than to show that you are a pig! There are so many things in this world that don't make any sense at all and eating contests are among them. Also, beer drinking contests are right up there with the pie eating contests. Eating or drinking to an excess and then vomiting it all up is abusing your body that as they say, "the good lord gave you." A lot of this garbage type of living stems from peer pressure and trying to out do your neighbour. I have never entered such a contest and I never will.

Couldn’t agree more...disgusting to watch!

I won a pie-eating contest many years ago, but it was a small competition and it was only who could eat one piece of pie the fastest without using one's hands.
Well, that's cute, but speed eating is exactly how people choke.

Joey Chestnut has a net worth of $2 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, an impressive feat for a competitive eater. The sport is, after all, a niche and a novelty where big bucks don’t come easy.
