I can't believe people like this woman. She was so deceptive to get people to donate money to her for her son's bogus cancer disease. She actually convinced her son that he had cancer, so she could get away with playing her game. I despise users, shame on them for tugging on the heartstrings of others to reap the rewards. :mad: Too many of these fundraising scams by these lying thieves!


Colo. woman accused of claiming son had cancer in order to collect money

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Arapahoe County authorities accuse a woman of falsely saying her 6-year-old son had cancer in order to collect thousands of dollars in charitable contributions.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office announced Friday that 28-year-old Sandy Nguyen (WIN) was arrested Thursday on initial charges of theft between $20,000 and $99,000 and criminal impersonation, both felonies.

Police say Nguyen convinced her son, family and others in the community that her son had cancer and was receiving treatment since about September 2012.
Various community and school fundraisers raised some $25,000 for the family. Police said Nguyen took at least $16,000 of that money and paid for a trip to Disneyland with her family with the donated money.

Police say Nguyen was taken into custody and was being held in the county jail on $6,000 bail.

I don't know how these people's minds work Ina, maybe if she got enough money and didn't get caught, she's just move to a different state and keep adding to her bank/pleasure account.
 
With the appearance of social networks such as Facebook this kind of criminal activity has only increased.

I think what is particularly heinous is that she convinced her son he had cancer - that's below bad.

I remember another one where a gal sent out tons of emails, this was like about 15 years ago. She wrote a sad story about being so in debt, and broke, and tons of people sent her money. She was in debt come to find out, over credit card spending. Whatever, I just couldn't do something like that and live with myself. I'd rather check into the nearest shelter and keep my integrity.

There are honest folks out there where many times, a friend will put the word out, etc. to get some donations, this kind of scam can ruin it for honest folks in need.
 
This sort of scam happens from time to time. I would never donate money to a sob story, only to a recognised charity
 
I've heard of this sort of scam before and similiar ones. As long as there's money to be made, the unscrupulous of the world will pursue it.

And sadly, a story like this doesn't even shock me. Now that's a telling reaction of how bad this world has become.

I've done volunteer work for decades for a couple of very fine charities. And they're out there and have the credentials and inclination to prove it. People have to be aware and alert before getting involved.

We get charity bags through the letterbox several times a week for people to fill with unwanted clothes etc. Half the time I have never heard of the charity concerned, and even those from what you would think of as reputable aren't always from that charity. Whenever I have clothes/goods to donate I ensure they are taken to the charity shop itself.
 
It's a bit low to say the least.

There's a malicious official looking spam e-mail going round the UK telling people a blood test has shown they may have cancer, which of course can terrify people, esp. if they've just had a blood test.

Why people do this sort of thing, who can say? Perhaps its a case of 'the opportunity to do evil, makes evil done'.
But Karma's got their number....

It'll all come out in the wash. Only kindness pays.

I haven't heard of that one, that is TERRIBLE! My husband and I are due for routine blood tests next week!:eek:
