Wondering. How Many Here Have Helper Gadgets?

Wife resisted for years but finally caved in and uses a cane around the house and a rollator when she has to go to the doctor. I can't stand long but so far no walking aid.
 

My problem I do not look like I need them, get funny looks just being on the scooter or pulling out of a handicap spot. So avoind using them if I can. Does anyone use the store provided scooters?

Yes, it's for reaching cans and boxes on high shelves and cabinets. Sometimes my roommate uses it to pick things up from the floor so she doesn't have to bend over. It's also handy for retrieving dog and cat toys from under furniture.

For some reason the dog is scared of it, so of course that's what I use it for. :p

I couldn't live without my grabber, love the thing. I need to get a couple more so I can place one in every room, so I can stop misplacing the one I have.

Yeah, I have that problem too, sometimes I get those drivers that don't lower the bus step thinking there no reason for it, which I give them the stink eye, because then I have announce to the world I need that extra help. I have a cane and only use it around the house, it's really great for a lot of situations around the home and would be useful when in the street, but, I'm just too vain to carry it with me even though it folds up. I'm going to work on not caring about it, because it really would be a help at times.
 
I used a cane, then two, then a walker before I got my hips replaced. I used the ride on carts in the store, too. I didn't have any choice -- my hip joints were collapsing.

Now that I have my hips replaced, I zip around on my own power again. I do use a grabber, though, for reaching stuff on high shelves and for hard to reach stuff on the floor.

Not my hip its the knee for now.

Pleople in the market have a habit of asking me to reach up for something not too much now, picking something up now that is good I could use that.
 
I mostly use the grabber to pick things up with, not so much for things on upper shelves, with my luck, it will drop out of the grabber and hit my toe, (has happened,) I'll just use the step latter for things on the shelf.

Because of my back, often when I drop something on the floor, it stays there unless my grabber is nearby. When friends and family used to visit, they used to complain about all the change scattered all over the place a dime here, quarter there, I wasn't about to bend, for loose change unless it came time I was desperate for money. You should see my face when I'm out shopping at any store and I drop something, I darn near want to cry, it's quite the production if I have to pick it up without causing a great deal of pain to my back. Sounds like a good idea to bring the grabber along, but, then, that's just one more thing I'll have to try to remember to carry and likely leave behind at the store. Sigh
 
we have a six year old ten year old thirteen and fifteen year old grandchildren who live right next door and they are great helper gadgets......
 
So far I don't have any need for any mobility aids. I do have one of the grabbers, but I use it when I'm mowing to pick up the occasional piece of trash or stick that makes its way onto the lawn. Only because I'm too lazy to stop the mower, shut the deck down, set the brake, get off, pick up the trash, get back on, and get it moving again. With the grabber I can keep moving and grab the trash on the fly.

That's the way I was when my hips were so bad. If it landed on the floor and was not easily picked up with my grabber, it just lay there until someone came along and picked it up for me. So I always had all this odd stuff on the floor - - oh, well. I know the feeling of dropping something in the store, too -- if it was important, I'd prevail on the kindness of strangers to help. I did bring my grabber to the store, because otherwise I couldn't get stuff down from high shelves (I had to use the riding cart so I couldn't reach very high up).

One of the important things being so crippled up for that last year taught me was an absolute respect for what disabled people go through to accomplish the simplest tasks and an admiration of the courage it takes to go on in spite of that. Now, if I see a person struggling, I'm the first to try to help.
 
Really like my grabber. When I was having back problems it got the stuff from the back of the dryer. I swear those socks slid to the back on purpose!
