Woodpiles are the new target of thieves in Europe

See on my news site that there are growing incidents of stealing wood from homes in Europe because of the economy and prices of heating fuel in several countries. They've discussed the possibilities of putting GPS trackers in logs to locate the thefts.

You can buy pallets of these at most lumber mills. Called slabs.

As cold weather comes to Europe this autumn, energy prices are rising. A main reason for the cost increase is Russia's war with Ukraine. Russia has been a main supplier of oil and natural gas for many European countries. Supplies have been limited because of the war and financial restrictions meant to punish Russia.

Understandable that this would happen when you think about it. Not many would have the option to keep their woodpile indoors.

This Winter may bring some real "heating" problems for Europe....which has relied heavily on Russian fuel/heating supplies. Anyone who has a fireplace, and access to firewood will be lucky. However, as the OP said, theft of that firewood may be a real problem.
