Word of the Day - Pop Wine

I never drank pop wine, which is vile stuff, but others did. Ick.

One night, after a friend's dinner party, a cordial was poured. I had no idea what it was, but I proceeded to slowly sip this delectable dark ruby liqueur with much delight. Imagine my surprise (shock ) when my friend informed me that it was his mother's homemade Sloe Gin that he brought home after visiting her in England. It was nothing like any Sloe Gin garbage that college kids drank and was absolutely deliciously sublime, one of the best liqueurs I've ever imbibed, and I've had more than a few. It just goes to show you that not all things are created equally. ;)

Baby Duck - a few Canadians may remember this from the 70s.

The "elegant ladies' drink" of the 1960's was a sloe gin fizz, one of the nastiest drinks known to mankind. It was like a Vicks Formula 44 cocktail, sickly sweet and fizzy. When you ralphed it up at 2 a.m. (and note that I say "when" and not "if"), it was spectacular.
Surprisingly enough, Sloe Gin has made a bit of a return. This example is quite good when used in moderation. I've used in tiki style drinks.
