Would you give information to telephone pollster?

You've all heard them. "In a recent poll", 42% say this and 43% say that. Would you tell how you really felt about a product, candidate, or policy to someone on the phone? And have you ever been polled?

I participated in an ongoing poll for several years. It wasn't about politics or anything like that. i knew the people conducting the survey and why they were doing it.

I don't have a regular landline and no one can get to me now. If I don't know the caller, I don't answer.

Some of the polls whose results you read are conducted in public places like malls and other places people congregate. They're often seriously skewed by demographics.

I've been polled many times by telephone. Usually statewide polls. If I think it's a legitimate poll, on policy or elections, I participate. Sometimes it's a "Push" poll, where they really just want to deliver a message, and the questions are an afterthought. It's pretty easy to figure those out quickly. I say thanks, but I've changed my mind, on those and hang up. Don't participate in any others, like product polls anymore. Been through that. Once was enough.

If it's a legitimate poll, done by professionals, they usually try not to ask personal questions that can identify you. I actually had to participate in doing polling once and know how hard it is to get responses, so I guess I'm more sympathetic than some.

I don't talk to them anymore. They once told me they would take 20 minutes and it was a lot longer so I don't participate in that anymore.

About 20 years ago, I was asked to be in survey. They would call every month. I was quite happy- my opinion counted!! The first time they called, the questions went on and on. Some of the things I had no opinion about. Finally, after 45 minutes of " On a scale from 1 to 10, how would you rate...". No, I wasn't doing this every month. So I hung up. Do you believe there is a problem with phone polls, what are the opinions of the people, who hung up on pollsters?

I've taken a few short phone surveys over the years, but generally I don't answer the phone if the number is unfamiliar or looks spammy.

No, and I don't sign petitions either. Don't feel comfortable sharing my views with random people calling my number, or providing my personal information to random people on the street with clipboards. I'll leave these things for the younger generation.

Back in the 70's, I polled people over the phone about National Health Insurance for a government study. The questions were brief and I never knew who I was speaking with. People were very accommodating. Look where we are forty years later.

We were a lot more trusting back then. Now with the internet, there are too many ways to gain our personal info and do illegal things with them
