Would you like to see the Military Draft enacted again?

During the Civil War, you could buy your way out of serving in the Military.

I did not wait to be drafted, at age seventeen (1967) I volunteered for the Army and then while assigned with the 518th Combat Engineers in Panama I volunteered for duty in Vietnam in late 1968.......I arrived in Vietnam Feb. '69' and stayed till June '70'.

I definitely feel that (for me) military service as well as serving in a combat zone made me a better man.

IKE, I fully agree that 2 years of active military service should be mandatory for all American males who pass the physical, plus 2 years of mandatory service in the National Guard.

Because of that, many of them are going deaf. The Navy can't find many new sonar operators anymore.

We really don't need many "Boots on the ground" these days.

Falcon--You are correct. With today's technology and modern weaponry, we don't need as many boots on the ground. OTOH, you can't fight an all air war, either, so ground troops will be necessary. I would think that with the stealth planes and the other new birds that we have in the air, plus our arsenal of ground weapons, it's hard for me to believe that we would lose any war. I used to watch the military channel on TV a lot. Just seeing some of the new cool rifles and other artillery, it's sure makes me feel proud. When we were in Vietnam, I don't know how many rifles had to be tossed because of jamming problems and other issues.

I am sorry to do this. It is not on topic, but I am having a little trouble and wonder if you might help me. I am getting e mail requests that do not appear to be from the person who the request says sent it to me. Sometimes they are from the same person and even though I respond to them they keep coming back. There is a way to stop them, but then I don't receive any e mails at all. I am confused and am sure this is something I can correct, I hope. One other thing. Some are sending e mails, but their comments come without quotes which is even more confusing. I tried to figure out how to contact the forum, but haven't figured that our either. I don't expect you to answer all these questions. If you have a suggestion about how to contact the forum I would appreciate it.

To institute a draft now days I fear would result in law suits on a massive scale. This isn't the 60's where people could just be herded into the military. Even then people were objecting on a large scale. Young people are very smart compare to us 60's hippie types. Peace Brother.
