Would You Live Or Work In A High Rise?

Post Navy my working life was in San Francisco high rises -- mostly in a 52 story building, although on the 10th floor. I was on the 20th? floor of another SF building when the Loma Prieta quake hit. I'll never forget being in a Xerox room about to copy something when a very large copy machine started to trundle across the floor toward me. Next day I had to go into SF to get something I was working on. The Hwy patrol had closed 101, but I knew a way to bypass that and legitimately get on the approach to the Golden Gate Bridge. I was the only car on the bridge. (-8

Anyhow, I would not want to live in a high rise, but working in one was never a problem -- except on those rare occasions when the elevator wasn't working and I had to take the stairs.

The closest I come to living in a high rise is when I go to my timeshare which I consider my second home. I usually ask not to be higher than the 18th floor. My sister and I were on the 16th floor one night when the fire alarm went off. Of course we had to walk down all those steps. My apartment complex has three floors per building, no elevators. I'm on the first floor. I would never want to work in a high rise either.

When I was working, I often visited accounts in tall buildings. Being there for a short period of time was ok, but I doubt that I would ever want to live in such a place. Heck, I don't even like living in a crowded neighborhood....row houses built right next to each other, etc. We live in a rural area where the nearest neighbors are about 1/8th mile away, and that is Great! I like peace and quiet, and privacy.

Worked in them when lived in NYC. I worked for office temp agencies alot and so it varied tho some assignments lasted weeks or months. The hardest part was the elevator ride cue at th the time i was still claustrophobic. Act of the will to get in them. After particularly stressful days I'd take the stairs down when heading home, maybe once every couple of months.

I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building, and I wouldn't care to go any higher ....my fear of height thing.
I live in a very well insulated building ... this may sound strange, but often I have a hard time trying to figure out what the weather is doing out there .. hard to gauge wind and rain at times.

Pros and cons to just this height,
.. biggest pro is being above the ground level activity and noise ... I like that part best.
.. and biggest con, when power outages occur, no elevator and having to go down stairs.

I live in a hi-rise. I'm on the 5th floor, which doesn't seem that high to me. I often walk down the stairs to get some exercise.

In my previous building, I was on the 9th floor. I never felt the building swaying. So I don't know how high you'd have to be to feel that.

Super rich in Dubai can have these!

In the documentary issues of older buildings not having to adhere to new safety regulations, number of stairways and elevators for examples. I never gave those issues any thought but then I don't live in a high rise. Fire is my least favorite way to die.
