Would you rather eat out, or eat in?

I like to eat at home and avoid eating out because I like foods that are plain and bland. When I know I will be gone all day I will fill my work lunch box with food and water and take a thermos of coffee with me. I find it more pleasurable to eat in peace and quiet in my car or truck that eating in a fast-food place. My wife and family go out to eat but they know not to ask me because I never go out to eat. I have become sick to many times from the spicy, salty, sugary foods. When I am gone for multiple days, I have an insulated Colman steel ice chest that I put food and water in as well as ice.

In my working years I commonly ate out 13 times a week. I had no interest in going out when I got home. That ended 30 years ago.

I lost my wife of 63 years and now I am on my own. I don't enjoy cooking, so I tend to have "quick and simple".

Today for Fathers day my daughter and her hubby took me out and I got to enjoy some coconut shrimp.

Probably don’t eat out a dozen times per year. We were away for 3 days so had breakfast and lunch in our room and a dinner out. The restaurant meals were a treat but I was tired of the high fat meals and lack of vegetables. It is rare occasion that we’re somewhere and have to eat lunch in a fast food place.

I don't cook any more because of my extremely painful back. DH usually goes out for fast food and brings it home, or we go to a couple of restaurants. Once in a while I heat up prepared food from Costco.

Mostly I dine in. Even though I'm not very picky, I'm a pretty fair cook, and I make things to my taste. Often times when I eat out, I feel I could have done as good or better than what I end up with. It's either too salty, under or overcooked, or just not that tasty. Plus, the portions are much too big, and you have to end up doing the doggie bag thing.
Then there is the noise factor, which I hate. At home, I can put on a little dinner music and enjoy my meal in peace. If I have a guest, it's easy to have a conversation, and much better ambiance. Once in awhile, I go out anyway, just to break the routine. I especially enjoy a champagne brunch at a local outdoor restaurant overlooking a lake. It's lovely, great scenery, good food, and all you can drink champagne. I used to DJ there for events and weddings.

I'm not a great cook, but I cobble together some decent meals for us at night. I would prefer to eat in for dinner. We only eat out for lunch on the days my partner is off work. We like to try different restaurants each time. We've found some great Mexican, Barbecue, Chinese and Thai restaurants close by. These are dishes I would even try to make at home.

I cook virtually all the meals at home, sometimes I get tired of it.
Our preference:
Lunch= out
Dinner= In
Maybe in the Summer we'll have Friday night dinner at the VFW, but that's it, we're not going-out-at-night people.

Edit: yesterday we had lunch at a cozy family diner in town, super nice wait staff, bottomless coffees...we could have had bottomless Mimosas, but I'm not sure we could get an Uber out here. ;)

Knew that the majority in our age group would enjoy staying home to eat.

My wife is a great cook, but just too hard for her sometimes.
We have always enjoyed eating out and we usually chose a 'Meat and Three'.
In Nashville, there are many, but Wendell Smith's is the one you want to go to.
Been here since 1952, the food is great and the service above the norm.

Breakfast, like going to Loveless Cafe. Best biscuits I've had (next to my Mom's)

I like to eat out, provided it is something really good that I can not make way better at home. For example, FilFillah Restaurant – The Best Authentic Arabic Cuisine In Minneapolis, US has about the best food I think I have ever eaten - it is Mediterranean food. Still, I don't know if I would eat there every day even if I could afford it as it features a bit more fried food than I probably would want to eat, although it is much healthier than typical restaurant food.

On the other hand, I find zero value in going to a restaurant and getting microwaved or reheated frozen pre-made (or leftover) food as so many restaurants offer, especially Asian types. And then paying a lot for them.

Prefer eating in & prepping food from scratch, same with desserts. But planning meals 365 days a year gets a little boring. So eating out at least once a week is what we do & the variety of restaurants to choose from is amazing. Not all have been what we expected but unless tried no way to know.

This is our next test.

I like to eat out just because I enjoy going some where and not being at home. My husband doesn’t enjoy going places, so the only place that we usually go is to the fitness center several times a week, and then right back home.
I have all my life been kind of a vagabond and wanderer, and I miss traveling; but even just getting out of the house and driving somewhere helps, and having lunch at a nearby restaurant.

The food I make at home is healthier, as well as cheaper, so it is probably good that we seldom go out to eat; but still, I would like to do it more often than we do.

I don't mind eating at home, but I like to go out too. I don't do it much at the moment but I did take myself out to lunch the other day. Sometimes I go out to dinner with friends.

When I'm hungry all I want is food- any kind of food. I'm your basic meat and potatoes guy. To me, there's little difference in eating at Mickey D's, or a 5star restaurant. It's all going to the same place. I'm just happy nuking something at home. Yet, I know some people, who would kill to get a seat at a famous chef's five star eatery.
Would you rather eat out, or eat in? Why?
I'd rather eat at home. I know the food is good quality and it will be prepared with TLC and be delicious.

No depending on good service or traveling there and back. Been to many good restaurants over the years, can't think of any good enough these days to make the effort and take a chance on a good meal. We can go to any restaurant we desire regardless of cost, but prefer to make our own and so much more enjoyable to eat in the comfort of your own home, IMO.

I'm increasingly reluctant to eat in a restaurant. Prices are simply too high and they cut too many corners with quality and preparation. Not to mention the pressure to tip higher and higher percentages of the meal's cost. To me, it's not worth the trouble.
