Would you send your kids or grandkids back to school in the current situation?

Damn hiccups....
NO , I don't think the powers that be have any kind of idea what is going to happen.
Home schooling is an option over this way I am told but I don't know for a fact what it entails.

It's a tough call.

On one hand, kids need education, and parents need their kids back in school so they can go back to work, because many cannot afford daycare.

I think I would visit the school, assess all aspects of their Covid measures, and depending on the age of my child/children, I may or may not allow for it.

IMO it depends on the infection rates in different parts of the country.

In my area, the infection rate is below 1% and the unemployment rate is at 12.10%.

So 87.9% of people are working on a regular basis and still able to keep the infection rate below 1% by using common sense and taking basic precautions at home and at work.

The debate is still raging in my area between the teachers and the school administrators. It makes me sad that the primary concern among the local teachers seems to be their own well being. I wish that they shared the same concern for grocery store employees, food service workers, municipal employees, etc...

I guess the question is when will it ever be safe to return to school.

Maybe it's time to scrap the old system in favor of a new online self-directed education system. It would allow us to scrap the expensive buildings, buses, majority of teachers and support staff in favor of some slick tutorials that would provide the same quality of education to every kid in America at a much cheaper cost/student.

Ant Bea I think you hit the nail square on the head. Time for a change, not just in schools either I am hearing from people that have kept working right through all this online. (y)

If they would follow the CDC recommendations on infection rate, many of these schools that are opening would not be opening. My problem with my area is that they are completely ignoring all the medical and science advice and only playing to the economic needs, like so many places. These are our children, for God sake! It is our job to keep them safe. I have no issue with the teachers, they are concerned about both themselves and the students. My grandson is doing virtual school. Our infection rate has been through the roof, and just in the last few days has hit under 1000 new cases per day. I am in an area where people are just not complying with what they need to do. People just going about their business as though nothing is happening, which makes it very difficult on the rest of us.

I would not and my daughter and son in law have decided to home school their kids. So far it is working out and my daughter said they seem to be learning more in a lesser amount of time. She said you have no idea how much time is wasted going from class to class and many interruptions during class time.
It is very time consuming for all concerned but yet very flexible. The kids are adapting and were use to it from when the virus first hit and they finished the year online.
Time will tell.
My one concern would be the social aspect of it but in their case they do outdoor activities connected with the church with other kids.

Lots of schools here have been open for weeks... there has been no reported surges of the pandemic from schools!!

Senior schools and colleges will return in September, despite many of the teaching fraternity's fight to stop it happening, I have no doubt then there will be sudden surges...

I would like to have them return, but if they were 15 or older, I would include their opinions in my decision. The pros outweigh the cons in my area. I would need time to consider the options.

Our great grandkids all started school this past Monday, and so far everything is ok....but the schools have changed their schedules, and revamped the classrooms so as to minimize the class size, and keep the kids a bit distant from each other. It will probably be mid to late Sept. before there are any signs of problems with kids attending school....so everyone is hoping this works out. Luckily, all of our "clan" lives in fairly rural areas with minimal CV issues.

Two of my grand kids said prior to entering the school they where playing and talking to fellow classmates, once inside it was masks and social distancing!!
