A "horizontal skyscraper" in China opened up its first attraction to the public: a glass-bottom observation deck 820 feet over the ground.

The Crystal, a "horizontal skyscraper" that stretches across the tops of four of the eight skyscrapers that make up the Raffles City Chongqing complex, opened The Exploration Deck to the public this week as COVID-19 lockdown regulations were loosened.

About 4 years ago, we drove to Las Vegas and stopped at the Grand Canyon Skywalk. The loop of glass extends about 75' from the canyon wall, and it is probably at least 800 ft. down to the Colorado River....it seems a lot farther. After a few minutes, we were kind of glad to get back to solid ground.

The new Freedom Tower at Ground Zero in NY has an observation deck like this. Not as open as the one in China or the Grand Canyon. China did have a glass bridge which I think may be closed as too many people were having panic attacks on it.

The CN Tower in Toronto has a glass floor. I have a photo somewhere in an album, shooting down. Of course, it isn't as high as China's horizontal skyscraper.

As for walking on it .. I'll pass, thank you

I walked on the glass bridge over the Grand Canyon. Very enjoyable and I felt very safe.
