Wright Brothers Day - December 17th

One of the many other great inventions to mankind.

Almost 38 years to the day later, a strike force consisted of 353 aircraft launched from four heavy carriers, attacked The American fleet.
The unprovoked attack killed 2,403 U.S. personnel, including 68 civilians, and destroyed or damaged 19 U.S. Navy ships.

The problem with our species is that we can always concoct something for the good into something monstrous.

I visited the Wright Bros. Museum and monument on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with my parents as a child. The park guide pointed out how the brothers dressed up for their first successful attempt because they were going flying! It was a classier age… 😸

I agree, @Fyrefox when we visited the area, I couldn’t get over how it was not considered out-of-the-ordinary to trudge up and down those dunes in three-piece suits and high starched collars!

I have visited Pearl Harbor many times and have spent a lot of time in Hawaii while in the military.

They did awaken a ā€œsleeping giant.ā€

For some reason I have an irrational fear of flying. My wife and I have crossed the pond countless times, but I have never seen a toilet on an aircraft. I just stay strapped in my seat until we land. Oh for the arrival lounge lavatory to relieve my aching bladder.

Now I may not take to flying but dressing up, starched collar and fedora hat. Three out of four is not bad, is it?
Look at the lapel width, definitely early 20th century.
