Yesterday was International Blasphemy Day!

The day that the taboo against criticism of religion is relaxed. It struck me, however, that we celebrate blasphemy almost every day here, and we love it...

Well that's just lovely. Do people really need encouragement to be offensive?
Why not have National Obscenity Day or National Desecration Day?

I do not believe that blasphemy per se should be against the law but deliberate offensive behaviour should be.
And is, for the most part.

Well, it strikes me those other days you would like to celebrate are also already celebrated here on a regular basis...

International blashpemy day hey Ralphy1?
I have that particular day every day! :playful::D

But seeing as there is a relaxation for us all, I just gotta say that if I had my way I would BAN ALL RELIGION!
Most of the troubles and wars in the world are caused by it.
They all have different Gods, and have different way of interprating what the past fairy tales tellers laid down in whatever Bible/Koran or whatever they go by.

Good on anyone who is a believer though, as Religion in the right hands can bring a lot of comfort to a lot of people.

No offence is meant to anyone in respect of my views there of course
Religion is a VERY emotive subject, but it does wind me up!

Cheers

Kenny :D

What does banning all religion mean and how could it work?

Well there would't be any Gods for a start!
After all, there isn't one anyway!
But being an Athiest, I would say that wouldn't I?
That being the scenario no one would know any better, so religion would never be an issue.

Religion breeds more hate than love, and if it wasn't part of our brain washed DNA a lot more peace in the world would prevail.

Cheers.

Hmm. Belief in a god or gods would be eliminated how?
By simply erasing all reference to them in the historic record and from all literature?
By demolishing all churches, synagogues, mosques and temples that are currently in existence and also those historic monuments such as the Parthenon, Stonehenge, and Machu Picchu because curious people would ask what they are all about and then religion would once again become an issue?

I think you might as well try to empty the Great Lakes using a bucket as try to eliminate religion from the world.
Ideas and beliefs have a habit of reasserting themselves even when the repression is harsh. Look at China where all religion was suppressed until recently.
All that happened was that it went underground. Some people with risk imprisonment and death to remain true to their religious convictions.

Yes, my excessive hedonistic behavior has certainly put my life at risk on many an occasion...
