Former nurse Heather Pressdee, 41, is facing more murder charges after allegedly giving out lethal doses of insulin - which has been linked to 17 deaths of nursing home patients under her care.

The Pennsylvania-based heath care worker is charged with two new counts of murder, 17 new counts of attempted murder and 19 counts of neglect of a care-dependent person.

Pressdee, from Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, was accused of killing two patients in May - but has since confessed to trying to kill 19 others at five different rehabilitation centers across the U.S. since 2020.

Ugly from the inside out...

Pressdee claimed that she killed the patients because she pitied their 'quality of life'.

The deranged murders took place at the Quality Life Services, a skilled nursing facility in Chicora where Pressdee worked as a registered nurse.

The two patients that Pressdee admitted to killing were a 55-year-old non-verbal man with a severe medical condition and an 83-year-old man in hospice care.

The first incident happened in August 2022, according to Law&Crime. Heather Pressdee clocked out of work and two hours later the staff at Quality of Life Services found the 73-year old.

According to an affidavit, the man started to have seizures and suffered from severe hypoglycemia shortly after Pressdee provided direct care to him.

Officials said: 'The alleged crimes happened while Pressdee was employed as a registered nurse at the following facilities: Concordia at Rebecca Residence, Belair Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Quality Life Services Chicora, Premier Armstrong Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

'Pressdee typically administered the insulin during overnight shifts when staffing was low and the emergencies would not prompt immediate hospitalization.'

The former nurse's victims ranged from 43 to 104-years-old.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Michselle Henry said: 'The allegations against Ms. Pressdee are disturbing. It is hard to comprehend how a nurse, trusted to care for her patients, could choose to deliberately and systematically harm them.
Nurse 'killed' 2 patients with insulin and tried to kill 19 others

I know that these murders are horrific, but I have a question. When these patients get so debilitated that they have no life at all, would there be any leniency if the caregiver was acting to administer assisted suicide? ( which is illegal also ), but I think we need assisted suicide legalized and regulated.

WE certainly do need Assisted suicide legalised... what we don't need is a Murderer using it as an excuse to kill

I agree with all that has been said . We [Cincinnati area] had one of those 30+ years ago .... A friend of mine was in an accident & hospitalized, this murderer killed him. The murderer said they had fallen in love with him, and just could not stand to see him suffer.

I really wish media would not try to sensationalize headlines ... this is a person who may have mental health issues who also happens to be a nurse that does not define her. ..
but a headline with NURSE .... is only for shock value
it only stokes fear in anyone who has a family member in a care facility or people who are already leery of medical personnel

Also from the link
"Pressdee is also said to have been disciplined for abusive behavior towards patients and/or staff at 11 health facilities since 2018, and she had either resigned or been fired from those. "

Why wasn't her state nursing license taken away?
This is the sad reality most do not see and happens in medical and education a health care worker or teacher is fired or run off from certain places for doing things that might not be proved..... only to go on and be a menace to other care homes/ schools etc..
The public should see how truly lacking their real "background" checks are. why hire someone who has a history of abusive behavior... i think the hiring staff should review their process.

When I envisage as nurse, it's more along the Carry On school of thought. :D

I mean, I'm not seeing caring in that face. Can't say I see a murderer either. It's all a bit vacant.

I'd day no, but actually there have been some lenient sentences for people that have ushered Father Death into the room of their partners who were dying of some nasty disease or other.

Assisted Suicide is a controversial subject. In literal terms, it seems reasonable to allow it. The trouble is in policing it. On the other hand, if I had a terminal illness, with lots of pain, I'd likely take the option. Unless I had a dog at the time. Coz I couldn't leave my doggie behind.

This isn't assisted suicide but Hospice care gets comfort medications. Morphine can be given usually every hour if needed. Liquid that can absorb in the mouth and doesn't need to be swallowed. Ativan can be crushed and mixed into the morphine. These medications will keep patients comfortable. But the family or responsible party may not agree and there are some people in terrible shape with no quality that are literally full codes, do CPR.

This type of murder goes on more often than we are aware. Too many times if a senior 70+ dies while in a nursing home, the Coroner will be called in and see that the person was suffering from some type of heart ailment and write it up as a heart disease like coronary thrombosis, which is one of the more common deaths coroners will use.

The coroner will then allow the body to be moved to the family’s mortuary. There are cases that support this happening.

Not isolated to Pennsylvania. Apparently tried to kill more 'across the country'.

Maybe she had to work in different states because bodies seemed to follow her work history?

I hate these stories. It's an insult to all of the great nurses I've known over the years that have worked in nursing homes where I have worked. Some people may read these stories and start fearing that there a lot more of these wackos around. In the facility where I work, I have seen nurses giving out insulin to some residents, and of course nothing bad happened.

But unfortunately, there is the occasional bad apple such as this monster. Send her to prison for the rest of her miserable life!

I don't agree with this.. My mother was a nurse, I still wouldn't think all nurses were lunatics because some nurses are murderers..

That's like saying all men are tainted because some men are murderers.... there's a lot of unhinged nurses.. and I can attest to that having known quite a few... just as there are unhinged in any profession...

I was speaking with another Trooper yesterday about this topic. He is still working and told me that the coroners still do this, but they now do a toxicology report on every person of any age that dies in a nursing home before they allow the body to be buried or cremated.
