We all know about Big Brother and how we
are watched all the time via, CCTV, Email,
Intenet, Mobile Phone, etc., etc.

I had a strange experience this morning,
I picked up my phone and "Woke" it up,
at the bottom of the screen it said:-

"It is Steph S*******'* Birthday Tomorrow
all day."

I know this lady, but have no real connection
with her, we are business associates, I have
her Skype name, (no Skype on my phone), I
have spoken to her on the landline, I don't
have her numbers on my Mobile, I do have her
Email address on my PC, not on my phone, I
am not friends with her on Facebook!!!

How can my phone know that I know her, I did
check her Facebook page and it really is her
Birthday tomorrow.

Very strange, very creepy!!!!!!!

Probably your email provider is "command central" for all these means of communication. There is no such thing as privacy any more. I agree, it is creepy!

I think there are "Privacy" laws, but doubt any of them are for phones or computers. Unless absolutely necessary, and it has to be that word, "necessary", I don't give out our e-mail address to anyone.

It can be really shocking how electronic stuff can be so connected to each other and the owner doesn't even know it AND can't do anything about it if they did know it!

Once you have email communication with someone, the line of communication is everywhere these days; you can be connected to them almost anywhere. I've had people I didn't know their real names just their email address and suddenly all these people I have no idea who they are showing up as people I may know on my facebook page and FB asking if I want to send them a friend request; they haven't any connection to my present friends, so for a while I thought it was weird that I was getting that request from FB that was until I started seeing familiar faces and though they were people whom I didn't know their full names, I recalled I had had an email communication with in the past.

Funny story about it all, I found out a few people that had sent an email to me here and there claiming single status, I went to look at those links sent to me from FB and saw that those gentlemen had lovely families, including a wife they chose not to mention when they were trying to ask me out. LOL. Small world eyes are, for sure, in places you never expect. From those links I could have very easily chatted up their wives and friends. But at least I figured out who all these people were that I was getting linked to on FB even get linked to my Doctors and and other professionals that I wouldn't consider having as FB friends. Good reason if you do have a FB page to keep your settings to private or at this point, as I do, only don't share what you wouldn't want any and everyone else to have access to.

There was a time giving your email address seemed perfectly innocent, I'm learning that's not true anymore, that's like giving the key to your safe deposit box and the front door of your home.

What Sunny said and anyone that not believe that is not keeping up with the times.

Does your phone screen display text messages?

I got a phone call this morning from 'me' ... my own number! :) I just pushed the Reject button. I Googled this incident (had plenty of other questioners asking!), and it seems to be a fairly recent scam in which it has been proved your own number is not safe or actually private and can be USED by those who have the right technology. This technology is used by certain telemarketers often posing as 'legitimate' companies...such as "This is your phone company" ... and they want you to 'confirm' your SS number, your credit card numbers, etc ...
Even WITHOUT a computer, 'they' have the goods on you...and any info you naively think is private... It irritates me in a way, but I usually just think Oh, Blank
em ...and just live my life...:love_heart:

I have had a think about this and I think that
it is Microsoft!

I have a Nokia Windows phone, I use Skype on my
PC, but never on the phone.

Microsoft/Windows have bought Skype and Nokia, so
I think that is the link.

I have a land line, and have been getting a lot of irritating calls lately from scammers and telemarketers. The political polls I expect during these times. BettyAnn, I had one of those calls too on my phone, with our name and number on the caller ID. Sometimes I look up the number that's calling online, and there's always a lot of complaints from other people about the same number calling, including the one who uses your info. 800notes.com is one site to see what others are getting the same calls.
