You don't know where he/she's been!

This coronavirus has made us all aware of the importance of 'social distancing', and rightly so.

What I'm now hearing regularly is, "You don't know where he/she's been," refering to anyone that comes a bit too close.

When I was a lad, my Mam used to say to other lads I was playing with in the street, "Oi, you lot, go on, get up your own end of the street," then under her breath to me, "You don't know where they've been."

And my sister who was friends with another girl who often gave my sister 'nits', Mam would tell her, "That little madam's hair could walk on it's own, don't be bringing her into our house, you don't know where she's been."

So, have any of you heard the above words, or something similar lately? 😊

That's funny stuff, Ferocious.

I don't have anything I can think of right now, but will chew on it for a bit and see if there isn't something I can pluck from the databank.

In the meantime I dedicate this song to you! :)

When I have to deal with a stranger in more than just groc store checkout, the ā€œwhere beenā€ thought does cross my mind but I don’t say it out loud. Growing up, my mom said that to me more when I wanted to snuggle stray dogs or cats than about people.

They called them cooties when I was younger.

I have used the expression "I don't know where they've been" a lot in the past 7 months in regard to not knowing if someone could have picked up the virus somewhere. We never know where someone has been or who they've been with. I think it's a very appropriate thing to say these days especially.
