You May Be On Dangerous Path.

A BBC cameraman was assaulted at a rally supporting your president.

Assaults are part of the territory, of course, but you don't expect them in the United States.

Trying to silence the press is a very slippery slope.

As I have stated here before, the world has become a dangerous place and no one is free from being attacked or worse. Right near the end of my career, I investigated a case that included a thug murdering a former Mayor of a very small, quaint village here in Pennsylvania. One of the comments that was made stated, “Whoever thought that we would have to deal with a murder here in Smallville (fictitious name)?”

The ''BBC'' cameraman, is not an employee of the BBC British Broadcasting Company... he's not British, he's a freelance camera man who was born and raised in OHIO and who lives in Fairfax Virginia ...

I'm not condoning anyone who attacks anyone , least of all anyone doing their job...and there are nutjobs everywhere , but we only have one side of the story, some freelance so called journalist can be very aggressive in their pursuit of a story, so we only have this very emotive headline...

The attacker who pushed and jostled for a few seconds with this guy was very quickly apprehended, and president Trump, ensured the ''cameraman'' was ok with a thumbs up..and received one in return.. before continuing..

Things completely blown out of proportion with this story!!

Not sure how that's relevant, unless you are saying It's OK to attack US camera persons, but not foreign ones.

He might not be a full time employee of the BBC, which is a publicly funded corporation, not a company, but he was certainly working for them, and they were paying him.

The (British) reporter talked about "my" cameraman and the incident, a workplace accident within the meaning of the regulations,, will have to be reported to the British Health & Safety Executive.

At no time was I condoning the attack of anyone home based or foreign based, I think I made that clear in my post Laurie. The point was that this has been reported all over the British media and some of the US, as if this was a mainstream cameraman being seriously attacked for no other reason than president trump whipping his supporters into a frenzy about journalists... and it clearly was not the case.

As I said mountains and molehills... ..the media whipping up anti Trump rhetoric ...

..as an aside my I know what I'm talking about, having worked in television production myself for many years...and my O/H all his working life (specifically the BBC) so I do know what the Corporation stands for, more than anyone here and I can say that without fear of contradiction.!!!!!

There is nothing extraordinary about media employees that entitles them to any "special" protections. No person, regardless of their occupation, should be intentionally pushed or shoved for simply doing their job as long as they are behaving in a civil and non-confrontational manner.

Big media corporations in the US have certainly earned every bit of the scorn they currently face but, assuming that we have all the facts, this individuals behavior is indeed unacceptable.

Still not sure of the relevance.

A ten second clip from a top of the hour radio news update hardly qualifies as media hype, or builing a mountain out of a molehill.

I had no intention of encouraging any anti-Trump sentiment, I would not be so ride to my many American friends.

The fact that the assault took place at a presidential rally is a matter of geography, not sentiment.

The Washington Post is seriously at war with Donald Trump, especially since he called the media the "Enemy of the People." So I find it strange that there was no mention of this incident in either yesterday's
or today's paper about it. The El Paso rallies (both pro-Trump and anti-Trump) were covered, but no mention of the cameraman being assaulted. I wonder why?

But Laurie, you said we may be on a "Dangerous Path". A 10 second jostling doesn't seem like much danger, when I think about it. JMHO.

Because it was a minor incident of only local interest. As has been said, why make a mountain out of a molehill?

I simply thought it worthy of comment.

Roughing up the press has been the first step in the degradation of many a free democracy.

As I said elsewhere, I simply thought it worthy of comment.

Agreement is not compulsory!

It seems that we don't have true news reporting anymore at all; it's just "commentary" where some loudmouth wants to put their spin on things. "JUST THE FACTS, please."
