Young seniors, semi-seniors, what is that?

If you are senior then you are a senior. No young seniors, no semi-seniors just plain seniors. Or perhaps you enjoy bragging about your youthfulness in a SF social group?
I am old and I have every wrinkle, ache and pain so unless you are reminiscing about the good ole days please refrain from pointing out that you a youthful senior. It makes the rest us feel old.

I’m an old trip who is still fascinated by many colors and fantastic imagery

I have to laugh sometimes at this subject which keeps cropping up in forums.
I am 91 . I call myself ancient for fun but would classify now as very old.

Calling a person senior at age 50, 55, and even 60 is ridiculous .
Middle age would be a better title though at age 50 I considered myself still young and indeed right on in to my 60''s.
We are young, middle aged or old and we should be able to put ourselves in those categories as we age and when we feel like it.

The word senior can apply to many areas in life.
Senior teachers, senior accounts, senior students , etc., etc. .....
It should have nothing to do with defining an age group for people.
Governments can use age numbers and other words for classification

Just my tuppence worth ..off for a coffee now

Oh ..I did hear myself referred to as 'that old biddy on the # floor🤣🤣🤣

I think I may have accidentally started some controversy by introducing myself as a young senior.

I am 56. I am not retired and I am technically a baby boomer. It is questionable whether I am a senior. A few places will count senior as 55+, but it is more common to use 60 or 65.

I was feeling a bit unsure about whether I was too young to be here. I wanted to be upfront about my age. If people thought I was too young to be here, I wanted to know right off the bat.

I have looked at groups for middle aged people. Mid life crisis. Mid career people. People freaking out about a gray hair or wrinkle. People obessed with still looking young. It wasn't what I wanted.

I am nearing retirement and have a husband in poor health. He is only 59, but with his health, his capabilities are probably lower than most people who are 69. I have always been a bit of an introvert and a homebody, so I am okay with it.

I just want a quiet relaxed life doing hobbies at home with an occasional visit to a local attraction. And this makes me feel more aligned with people older than me than younger than me.

I agree, Ed. I consider it all silly word games. Someone calls me a "baby senior" and they're going to get the stink eye. 👁️🤨
To seriously analyze it, I wonder if sometimes it's done because someone simply can't accept the fact that they're aging? 🤷‍♀️

Well, since you are more experienced at being a senior than I am I will take your word for it. I defer to my elders.

I've always thought of it as 3 stages.
The stage that you have all kinds of energy but no money because you're too young to work.
The stage when you can finally work and have no energy left to play.
The "I'm retired and you're not" stage.

Calling yourself a young senior is your choice and that is just fine.

The point is you are mature enough to be part of this forum and we welcome you. You have several age groups to listen to and you will be the one to choose to read and listen and take part.
You can agree or not.

I mean Kathy... I am prime example.... yapping my head off with my opinions which I am entitled to do. I do it now and again.
They haven't chucked me out yet

We do have fun too.

No, no, no. You are not too young and a controversy is started on here very easily. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes it becomes a controversy by a comment or two, and sometimes the most innocent of threads turns into a war. Nature of the beast.
You are welcome here and I hope you take it all with a grain of salt. Its not you, it's us. 😁

Just had one but thank you.
Off out to collect 20 dollars from my lottery ticket win.....whoopee.
Thought I might buy a nice bottle of wine but our liquor stores are closed. On strike for 14 days.
How dare they!!!

I will point out the many Ontario wineries that are NOT on strike. I don't know where you live but Doug Ford just put out an online map of all the independent wine and spirits dealers in Ontario that ARE OPEN. In my part of Toronto there are wine shops within the Loblaws, Metro and Sobey's stores, as well as some who have their own outlets.

Darn! I thought I started the controversy. Now I'm disappointed!
