Your Favorite Funny Man?

Who is/was the funniest?

When I was young, I had favorites and kind of an informal intuitive ranking in the back of my head. Today, it seems like comedians try to distinguish themselves by testing limits. I guess I prefer the ones that are less offensive, rather than who's the funniest. None make me laugh like they used to.
 
My sister took me to a comedy club when I visited her in Chicago. I didn't think it was very funny. I would wait a lot of the time hoping to get a chuckle. These weren't big names. They tried. I rooted for them, but it was disappointing. I tried to imagine myself up there. It seems like a hard way to make a living. I wouldn't be interested trying to make it in the business.

Omg...Don Rickles, he was so funny. And, quick too with the comebacks.
Used to love watching him on Johnny Carson.

So many funny guys back in the 70's....and no cussing required.
 
From the list, Robin Williams. I can watch his bit about drinking with a Scotsman every day and it would never get old. 🤣

So many from the earlier generations to list. I would add Jackie Gleason and Redd Foxx to Nathan's list above.

There are a lot of newer ones that are really funny too. Nate Bargatze, Tom Papa, Bill Burr and my most favorite, Sebastian Maniscalco.

I don't like a lot of swearing either. But these guys know when to rein it in.

I miss the 'clean' language and the genuine.... funniness of comedy. Most now seem determined to cut others down with their jokes, sarcasm to the highest degree, filthy talk and pushing the limits of what can be said.

Yes, I totally agree. The bashing of Presidents, celebrities, athletes ...all for laughs, just doesn't sit well with me. I notice a lot of late night hosts do this. I refuse to watch them anymore.
