Your Most Memorable Vacation?

Some of you are world travelers...like my Dad and his partner. Almost out of countries they haven't seen once or twice. Then me and hubby didn't plan retirement so well and too many kids. We didn't do a lot of traveling. But what was the trip that stands out?

For me it was our honeymoon. We ate our way through New Orleans. Of course we enjoyed much else as well <<<wink, wink>>> But the food and sight-seeing there was nothing like it. At the time hubby was a big fan of Paul Prudhomme. We got to meet him and his wife Kay, my husband all but kissed his feet.

Breakfast at Brennan's, snacks at the Café Du Monde, two dinners at K Paul's, an oyster po' boy that gave me agida but was delicious nonetheless. Sightseeing the French Quarter and all the funky little shops. I'd still like to go back someday and bring home a new baby from Villa Lobos.

So how about you??? What was your best vacation ever?

Memorable great? Or memorable horrible?

Serious question.

Too many to choose just one so I'll have to list the top ones:
My first trip out of the US - to Ireland on my own in rental car. The scenery, the people, the accents, the music, ancient sites
My honeymoon in Scotland when husband took me all over our county including some islands.
A trip to Florida when we saw lots of dolphins up close including one jumping up the air.
The Vatican.
Thailand of course - our 4th trip will be this upcoming winter - love the weather, the people, the Buddhist culture, the food.
Australia with my inlaws - the scenery, the weather, the friendliness of the people.
Bruge, Belgium - the architecture, canals, chocolate
Uganda - the safaris and the people

My most "recent" trip to England. I stayed with a friend so didn't feel like a tourist (didn't feel much like one the first time I visited either, though that is what we were, just not escorted or on a bus the whole time).

I didn't want to come home and I would have moved back like a shot, but later thought about it and reflected that I only knew one person in the whole country, and he wasn't a great friend, so ...

I'm more of a homebody than an adventurer, unless I'm with a friend I trust, then I'm brave and bold.

There have been several memorable vacations. Two weeks in the Canadian Rockies was wonderful. Two weeks touring Nova Scotia was a great trip. Then there was last year's two week trip over to England to see the grandkids, where we all stayed in a house together in St. Ives. A great trip.

Not a world traveler here.

Would say our first trip out west with ATVs would be one of the memories that set us on the ATV trail riding.
On that trip we rode with son in his truck , ATVs were behind it , in enclosed trailer.
Not a travel trailer!

Son spotted an area with fire ring,,parked truck.
We got out our machines & off we went!

Got lost ,, finally made it back to where truck, trailer were parked about midnight.
Enclosed trailer became our bedroom, where we slept like babies.

Morning & breakfast cooked outside.

Wandered about while guys fueled up machines.
I noticed what looked like a foundation & what I thought was white plastic bag.
It was someone's headstone!
Made me wonder what the story behind it was.

Its been about 10 years since that trip.
Son still travels with truck & trailer.
We follow him in an old RV towing our machinates.

Have saw a lot of mountains, lakes, wild life.
Plan on doing it again this year.

Husband & I are in our 70s, not sure how much longer we can do this.

Many years ago, I took the family to the US, hired a Cadillac and travelled west to east across some of the northern states.
Kept off the tourist trail, didn't book anywhere and were greated with friendly curiosity everywhere. Did things like travel across Lake Michigan on the SS Badger, a trip on the Missisippi, hired a plane for a sightseeing flight, ended up somewhere they were celebrating Christmas in July , travelled through the Amish country and finished up in Washington DC.

Much nearer home, I remember the first holiday Dianne and I took together before we were married, down to the Lake district.
This was before the motorway was finished so it was minor roads south from the border, and the magic of seeing the mountains appearing as we drove towards Keswick. The Lake district always fascinated me since reading the 'Swallows & Amazons' books as a kid.

I guess my most memorable, not in a good way, vacation was back in the 80's, my friend and I were going to London, waiting in the plane to take off at DFW when a another plane crashed at the airport. After much delay we finally took off and arrive at London only to have our luggage missing for 2 days.

On the good side, took a Hawaiian vacation years ago with 3 friends, saw all the islands...much fun.

I've had a few also, just can't pick one. Our honeymoon camping in theYellowstone National Park area, our road trips and camping in Alaska and Canada, and our couple of vacations in Hawaii. We always stayed a few weeks, visited the different islands, and explored on our own renting cars and avoiding crowds and tourist areas....love Hawaii!

I know it's a cliché, but I vote for our Honeymoon in Hawaii in 2003. Cruise that visited the 4 main islands, plus a side trip to Fanning Island (Tabuaeran) which is 900 miles south of Hawaii. It was all good. (We must have loved it -- I live on the Big Island now.)

For me it was two weeks on the R. Tucker Thompson, a 90 ft. twin masted schooner out of the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. We sailed with 6 passengers and a crew of 5 from Vavau to Nukualofa and stopped at many of the islands in the TONGA Chain. I did this shortly after retiring in 1992.

First thing that came to mind, though there have been more recent, was a vacation in Canada when I was a teen. I get the giggles everytime I think back on it. Never, leave a group of teens in completely unsupervised quarters and especially when they can find a way to sneak out an hit the nearest party. Fun, fun, fun. I have very fond memories of that trip, though I'm sure the hotel people were happy to be rid of us wild young teenagers. Since then rarely have I not enjoyed my vacas greatly, but, without too much detail the Canada stands out this moment.
