Your shoe closets, take a look maybe, how many pair of shoes, boots, slippers, etc. do you own?

...when Daughter was just starting to walk I bought her her first made to measure leather shoes from Clarks.. they were a baby size 3... and she wore them while learning to walk so the toes of course were scuffed.. but I kept those first shoes, and this is them 45 years old now..

Too cute!

I am happy you didn't ask this before. Growing up my older brother was the manager of a shoe store. They were closed on Sundays and he would take me and my sister to pick out shoes we liked. We would get a huge discount and believe me I couldn't count how many shoes we had. Now I have only the shoes I need.

this is totally what we kids had to wear to play out as well as for Gym,... kids whose parents were more well off got to wear white ones.. :D

Just curious. Leather or canvass? I remember high school, we had to have 1 pair of clean athletic shoes for class. They had to be white canvas and tie-on only, meaning no slip-on. Do you remember the price? I wore Adidas only because our football cleats were Adidas. I think they cost about $30

I remember when Van's were big with the teen crowd back in the 80's. They were fairly expensive. My daughter wanted a pair and I broke down and bought her a pair of the black-and-white-checkerboard design. She was over the moon.

Then I found out that the girl next door had 27 pairs of them in her closet and was always bugging her mother for more. I appreciated my daughter all the more for being so happy with one pair.

Crikey, Horsey, a tribe of octopuses could be shod with yours and Mrs Horsey's collection. 😊
Sorry Timoc, I meant to respond then it slipped my mind. This getting old malarkey can be annoying.
In that photo of the two racks of shoes, the rear row, centre pair of the left hand rack, I saw in a photo.
Dated 1920, it features Hollywood Royalty of the day: Douglas Fairbanks Jr. & Mary Pickford.

His shoes, I have just got to have his shoes. Did you know that a shoemaker is not a cobbler?
Cobblers repair shoes, whereas a cordwainer makes shoes. (There's a Guild of Cordwainers.)

Here's the result of the cordwainers skill.
They get more remarks than my hats.

I have way too many shoes, probably compensatory buying caused by the fact that as a kid my parents would buy me only one pair prior to the beginning of each school year that was expected to last until the next year. That, and a pair of what were then called sneakers that were only to be used in gym class or after school.

I’m partial to loafers, including penny loafers and other slip-ons. Kids today tend to own only costly “athletic shoes” endorsed by overpaid pro athletes and rappers. I’ve actually had kids look at my traditional leather shoes and question, “What are they?” 👞🤔

I'm a big fan of plain loafers and penny-loafers, too. Impossible to find in stores, and waaaay too expensive online.

Back in the early 80s, a 16-year-old neighbor (male) told me about a knock-off brand called World Cup. Said it was the most popular shoe in the area. As he was VERY fashion-conscious, I took his word for it and bought a couple of pairs.

I don't want to seem creepy by looking too closely for a brand-name or directly saying anything, but these days in this area high school kids are wearing them! I guess they want to be like their grandparents' generation! :ROFLMAO:

I still like that style. Neat and comfortable. Haven't seen them in many years, though.
they're still available.. I have that exact style, but not in white or black.. but various colours through lemon to Red.. in a box under my bed..unworn... bought about 10 years ago.. and I keep meaning to donate them :D
