Yes big time. Firstly my older brothers. Especially the one who read books I couldnt understand. Its taken me a lifetime to catch up.
Girls. Women. Ladies. At college I was smitten by this girl who came from an upper class suburb of Sydney. Her dress fashion stood out. She got under my skin. 😀😀
Dont remember the details of my humiliating infatuation with her. I was such a pathetic romantic!
Ive learnt that putting people on pedestals is unhealthy. Everyone will someday disappoint. Better to be a pragmatist in life. They are much happier people too.
 

I have my heroes but realise that they have their flaws too.

Historical heroes of mine include William Wilberforce for steadfastly working to abolish the English slave trade and Lachlan Macquarie for rooting out corruption in the early penal colony of New South Wales and for having the vision to start building a permanent settlement. Another hero is Fred Hollows for his work training workers to perform ocular implant procedures in third world countries to allow poor people recover their sight.

Unsung heroes include my daughter who has been a rock for some many people and who is bearing her own troubles with courage and strength.

My husband is my hero and will always be. He’s truly extraordinary and I am lucky to have him.
He’s on a pedestal cause I think the world of him but I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing. He deserves it.❤️

I just realised that I misnamed him. He is William Wilberforce, not Wilber.

Lachlan Macquarie replaced Governor Bligh after the mutiny of the corrupt Rum Corps. He was the first governor with an army background rather that a naval man. He brought out his own regiment and sacked the one that was monopolising stores and provisions, including rum which had become the local currency. Macquarie allowed emancipated convicts to hold government positions and one of them, Francis Greenway, designed many of Sydney's iconic sandstone buildings. Macquarie laid out the roads, encouraged exploration and established new settlements west of the Blue Mountains.

We could do with a Lachlan Macquarie today to sort out corruption at high levels of government and commerce.

I get where your comin from (maybe)...I was always taught.. speak when your spoken to.

Go to your room when company comes...

Everyone else is more important than anything you have to say....

But sittin in that room after awhile you listen and learn, as you grow up.....

That maybe, just maybe , they aren't as high and mighty as they profess to be....

I could be totally off mark here..because I have to second guess everything that comes out of my mouth/head.

You're an interesting guy, hypo. I can tell, from the way you express yourself, that you're an intelligent guy with a good deal of interest in the world around you. Why do you think you had low self-esteem all your life?

I REALLY wish I could have adopted this attitude. It’s definitely a healthier attitude to have.
We are equal. Some mind sets are hard to break.
 
thanks treeguy and seeker. i feel only now that i am starting to see some ability in myself that never was developed. i didnt develop my intellect until later in life. In my twenties i lived in some kind of daydream akin to a lost teenager. Only now am i starting to forge a more individualistic personality. Less afraid to disagree with people.

Well, your doin better than me I still have a hard time standing up for myself and saying what I really want to say..

I hate confrontation on all realms..It's a struggle and most times.... it just aint worth it.....

Pressure , real or imagined, has had victory over me on countless occasions.😯😯😀
 
i once decided to learn piano at age 27. after 6 months my teacher asked me to perform at a concert. there i was with elementary and junior high kids.
came my turn on the stage. i froze half way. stopped and started. then froze for good. muffled applause as i lurchef off the stage.
i was so humiliated I quit learning piano from that day.
 
No, it would not be fair to them or to myself. Admiration, respect, yes, I can embrace those things, but revering someone isn’t usually very healthy. For either party involved.
