Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You're old enough
To give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth, Oh,

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it is wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, Oh,

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here
Before I have the time
To change my mind
'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, Oh,
Young girl

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Get along, girl,
You're much too young, girl

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl.

This is by Gary Puckett and The Union Gap. I don't think this would fly today.

I don't know if the lyrics would fly today, but I have their "Greatest Hits" CD & I love it. I doubt most people who like a song take the lyrics literally.

Another song that might not fly today is a Beatles song - "Run For Your Life."

Well I'd rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You better keep your head, little girl
Or you won't know where I am

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end ah little girl

Well I know that I'm a wicked guy
And I was born with a jealous mind
And I can't spend my whole life
Trying just to make you toe the line

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end ah little girl

Let this be a sermon
I mean everything I've said
Baby, I'm determined
And I'd rather see you dead

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end ah little girl

GP and the Union Gap are saying she's too young for him, but appears to be of age due to her perfume, make-up and behavior. Don't see anything objectionable about that.

The Beatles song? Ouch.

While I agree that song lyrics aren't meant to be taken literally, I heard this Rolling Stone tune again recently and was really taken aback.

Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around
It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ain't it the truth babe?
Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways
It's down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she's told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright

Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world
It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah
It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright

Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else
It's down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright
Say it's all...
Say it's all...
Take it easy babe

I was surprised when I got a Marty Robbins CD & heard this gem:
I've got no use for the women
A true one may seldom be found
They'll use a man for his money
When it's gone they'll turn him down
They're all alike at the bottom
Selfish and grasping for all
They'll stay by a man when he's winning
And laugh in his face when he falls
My pal was an honest young puncher
Honest and upright and true
Till he turned to a gun shooting gambler
On account of a girl named Lou
They fell in with evil companions
The kind that are better off dead
When a gambler insulted her picture
He filled him full of lead

Strange that I never realized what the lyrics could mean. Makes me feel really Dumb !
me too...I loved that song when I was a teen..and even when Billy Swann did it in the 70's..I still didn't realise what it was about,...however the past is a different country they do things differently there..so I'll carry on enjoying it.. :D

Ringo Starr was 33 when he made this video recording.
"You're 16, You're Beautiful, and You're Mine"
Its creepy.

See, I never gave it a thought Lara..because 16 in scotland is the age of consent, and also with parental permission old enough to be married ...

I had friends when i was a teen who were married and had a baby at 16... I didn't think it was a good thing, but it was the law, so I just accepted it as the law.. so songs like Ringo's never phased me

A lot of the time you can't actually hear the lyrics. In fact, many people were confused as to what the words were. There are still songs which I haven't figured out the words to. Just go with the sound..!
On the other hand, there are some songs, especially Heavy Metal, which have very clever lyrics, but you don't realise until you see them written down.

A lot of those love songs to young girls were about first loves. At 16 I had a serious case of puppy love - thought we'd be together forever. Young love is so intense.

When visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I saw the napkin on which the lyrics for "Save The Last Dance For Me" were scrawled. I always thought the words to that song were a little weird (though I liked it anyway) until the docent told me the story behind it. The lyricist, who was wheelchair bound, wrote it to his bride who was a professional dancer, during their wedding reception. He gave her his blessing to dance and enjoy, knowing that the last dance of the evening (ahem) would be with him.

A very sweet story. When I hear that song now I feel a special connection to it.

I agree.

One of my all time favorite movies is based on that theme.

Now that is creepy!

Super creepy!

Whoever wrote that needs to be on a watch list.:(

This is a tune that they never play, anymore, on the air:

Last December I met a girl
She took a likin' to me
Said she loved me
But she didn't know the meaning of the word
She imagined love to be grand
Me holdin' her hand and
Whisperin' sweet things and
Cooin' softly like a song bird
Then one mornin' she came to me
With a tear in her eye and a
Sigh on her breath Lord she said
"Hon I'm heavy with child"
I said "god damn girl can't you see
That I'm breakin'my back
Just tryin' to keep my head above water
And it's turnin' me wild"
Cinderella can't you see
Don't want your company
You better leave this mornin' leave today
Take your love and your child away
Rockin' chair on the front porch
I'm thinkin' about all the things that I did
As a young man
Now that I'm old
I remember her and the boy
Did he have all the toys and the joys
That a young man should have
Before he gets too old
Cinderella couldn't you see
Didn't want your company
Shoulda left that mornin' left that day
Took your love and your child away
-Firefall

Even when it came out, I thought it was ridiculous: The guy got so po'd that she was pregnant, as if he had nothing to do with it! Always great to kick out someone you've knocked up, right? So, in his old age he has some thoughts about the gal and his son. Gee, what a wonderful man.......

Harry Chapin – Dogtown

"Dogtown" as written by and Harry F. Chapin....
Up in Massachusetts There's a little spit of land.
The men who make the maps, yes, they call the place Cape Ann.
The men who do the fishing call it Gloucester Harbor Sound,
But the women left behind, they call the place Dogtown.

The men go out for whaling, past the breakers and the fogs.
The women stay home waiting they're protected by the dogs.
A tough old whaler woman who had seen three husbands drown,
Polled the population and she named the place Dogtown.

There's all these grey faced women in their black widow's gowns,
Living in this grave yard granite town.
Yeah, you soon learn there's many more than one way to drown;
That's while going to the dogs here in Dogtown.

And she speaks: My father was a merchant all in the Boston fief.
When my husband came and asked him for my hand.
But little did I know then that a Gloucester whaler's wife
Marries but the sea salt and the sand.

He took me up to Dogtown the day I was a bride.
We had ten days together before he left my side.
He's the first mate of a whaling ship,
The keeper of the log.
He said, "Farewell, my darling, I'm going to leave you with my dog."

And I have seen the splintered timbers of a hundred shattered hulls,
Known the silence of the granite and the screeching of the gulls,
I've heard that crazy widow Cather walk the harbor as she raves
At the endless rolling whisper of the waves.

Sitting by the fireside, the embers slowly die.
Is it a sign of weakness when a woman wants to cry?
The dog is closely watching the fire glints in his eye.
No use to go to sleep this early, no use to even try.

My blood beats like a woman's,
I've got a woman's breast and thighs.
But where am I to offer them
To the ocean or the skies?

Living with this silent dog
All the moments of my life,
He has been my only husband;
Am I a widow, or his wife?

Yes, it's a Dogtown and it's a fog town,
And there's nothing around 'cept the sea pounding granite ground
And this black midnight horror of a hound.

I'm standing on this craggy cliff,
My eyes fixed on the sea.
Six months past, when his ship was due,
I'm a widow to be.
For liking this half living with the lonely and the fog,
You need the bastard of the mating of a woman and a dog.

And I have seen the splintered timbers of a hundred shattered hulls,
Known the silence of the granite and the screeching of the gulls,
I've heard that crazy widow Cather walk the harbor as she raves
At the endless rolling whisper of the waves.
At the endless rolling whisper of the waves.
At the endless rolling whisper of the waves.

Harry was provocative, he wanted to get your attention. In 'Dogtown,' he crossed the line to sleaze. Harry and his brothers all took part
in his lyrics, but Harry got the credit. To my knowledge it was never played on the radio, not in the 80's...Most of his songs were not
given air time due to their length. The only songs I know that played on the radio were W.O.LD., 'Cat's in the Cradle," When "Taxi," was released,
dis jockeys, 'Yes were going to play "Taxi," -they played half, then commercials, then the last part of "Taxi."

There is a line or a stanza missing:
The husband's at sea
the wife is sitting by the fire
looking at: "this black midnight horror of a hound...."

I remember listing to the album for the first time:
'Whoa, whoa, what's the song about...
His albums came with the lyrics, pulled out the lyrics, Yep, that line was part of the song.
