28 straight days over 100 here so far

WOW, Jim. That is hot. My Aunt and Uncle lived in the suburbs of Phoenix for many years. I remember my aunt saying that often they would have to wear light weight gloves when driving, as their car steering wheel was so hot. I still remember seeing pictures of her "tending" to their stone "lawn". If memory serves, the stones were green.
Stay hydrated, young mane. Drink lots of water.

I consider over 90 to be a "near death experience". Even here at the coast, we've had 5 or 6 days that have topped 90 which is quite unusual. We've been back in the 70's -low 80's over the last few days. Fall is on the way - -thankfully.

We had around 90 for almost all of july and for the last 2 weeks in August .. over 90 degrees here.. and we have NO AC !! None !! ......hardly anybody does here.. but climate change has caused this to be the third year in a row with high temps and high humidity .. so we're going to have to think about getting something installed , because I can't cope with no AC...

@RadishRose , yes same here with burning hands on the steering wheel , and on the gear stick, and the door handles..despite putting a sun screen thing over the dashboard it was still burning hot!!

Sorry you still have another couple of weeks of this to go Jim, but at least you can stay indoors and be cool..
 
I never understood why people live in that type of weather. Sure, it's nice in winter, but does it make up for the summer heat that one has to deal with? You live in a desert, so you accept what it is when you make the decision to move and live there.

My wife and I visited Las Vegas about 10 years ago. We went there only because she wanted to see Celine Dion. It was 116 degrees the next day after we had arrived, so we thought we would use the pool to cool off. Holy Moly! The pool was so cold, we didn't want to get in. We asked at the Concierge desk why the water was so cold and he said that they use a "chiller" to cool the water. They call that a chiller? Oh No! That's a freezer.
 
I seen the local weather last night and they said, we had 6 days in the 90's so far this year. They were in the low 90's also.
I dislike the heat and like the cooler climate better. I totally dislike humidity and heat.

When I first moved to Austin, in '78, the weather was great, year-round. I can't remember having scorching, humid summers, until the last ten years, or so, and I work outside.

Global warming is a fact. I give a rat's behind if it's man-made or part of a natural cycle. I suspect both play into it.

Why I have stayed here, is that I became a victim of my own success. Anyone who keeps up on the favorable business climate (pun?) of major US cities knows that Austin consistently ranks at the top or very near it.

By the time this city started to suck, hard, because of horrible traffic, air, water, expenses and weather, I was on easy street, financially, and not inclined to simply pick up stakes, and move. I think many people are similarly trapped in their earlier, chosen cities.

With retirement time here, I can now decide where I'm moving to, to escape this Hell. I can only hope that new, hot weather doesn't follow me to my more northern destination choice.

Similar story here, though our heat wave will break in a few days. Equally welcome will be the drop in nighttime temps.
Other than a few scattered days, June and July usually bring temps in the 80s. Beginning of August through med-September can be beastly though.
Don't even ask me about my summer power bills. :eek::eek::eek:

As the climate continues to warm, higher temperatures are going to become the norm....all over the country/world. In another century, or two, there may be a mass migration to Canada for people trying to escape the heat. Anywhere in the SW, temperatures are going to reach a point where Summers are just plain miserable. My Sister and Brother-in-law have a nice 2nd home in Sun Lakes, AZ., and they have decided to put it up for sale because of the miserable Summer weather...but so far, they haven't found a serious buyer....perhaps they need to wait until Winter to try to sell.
 
I hate to complain when all I have to do is think back before AC came about let alone the pioneers and westward settlers and no one wore shorts in those days let alone summer fabrics. Don't get me wrong, I do curse the heat from time to time especially when I cone in from it to my AC home and close the door vowing not to outside until October!!🏜
