Walmart is to stop selling ammunition for assault rifles and handguns

Walmart stated it would be any ammo that was used in the El Paso shooters weapon (AK-47) and they would also stop selling handgun ammunition.
Gun hobbyists are laughing at this one. But, for those who don't have knowledge in that field, here are some (not all) "assault weapon" calibers:
.223
5.56x45
9mm
45 acp
10mm
6.8 spc
7.62x51 NATO
308
30-06
7.62x39
458 SOCOM

Those hobbyist probably buy their ammo elsewhere, so why are they laughing about it?
Because it's so silly. It's like a car dealer saying, "SUV's are dangerous, so we will stop selling Ford SUV's. Walmart would be better off just not selling any ammo.

A 55 grain .223 round would be pretty much worthless for Buffalo hunting. As for shooting a bird on the wing out of the sky, that would be about a one in a million instance of blind luck.

The Buffalo Hunters of the 1800's preferred the .50 caliber sharps rifle.

Well thanks. eliminates another reason for not needing an AR-15 the poster boy for the gun lobby.

It's not a question of anything but Walmart saying we don't want to be part of the gun scene anymore. Gun hobbyists are not the problem.
Walmart CEO clarified.
'After selling through our current inventory commitments, we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons,' he wrote.

Meh... it's their prerogative. It won't prevent a criminal or deranged person from shooting innocent people. It doesn't address the core issues... which of course are criminals don't care about laws and deranged people don't either. If Wal-Mart really wants to take a stand on an issue that impacts more people... stop selling tobacco products and opiates, and lobby for better metal health programs.

It shows which side of the fence Walmart is on. Others are following suit. There may be people out there killing innocents, but they don't want to be part of that. It's not a question of stopping it. That's a dream.

I don't take issue with any of that...It's pretty easy to stop sales in an area that isn't overly profitable...let's count the number of folks dying from mouth lung, throat, esophageal cancers and compare that to those dying from AR (which doesn't stand for assault rifle btw) rounds...what side of the fence are they on there? This was a business decision (which I respect), but not a moral compass shift.

Counting others isn't going to do anything. I don't agree that it was only a business decision. It happened after the Walmart shooting. Walmart strives for good public perception with greeters, etc.
Other chains are following suit.

How come a segment of the population goes "off the rails" when ANYTHING is done that affects gun sales. What about when they stop selling an electric drill or some other tool or utensil because they have been deemed unsafe or too many accidents have been reported ? I don't see the outrage and people posting foolish talk of the need for this or that particular item. No one manufactures some pie in the sky argument that the "gubment" is coming for your electric drills. Now that I think about it, I've got to find a better place to hide my guns before those "gubment" agents come to my town.
The NRA has done sterling job of keeping and boosting sales on the backs of those poor souls who have given their lives in the various mass shootings, the sole result being to increase sales and profits for the gun manufacturers. What a sick society we are becoming.

Dave. Its because accidents with a drill is not the same as a deliberate killing with a gun.

Now Dave, you clearly have never heard of the NEDA (National Electric Drill Association). A long-honored organization, this group protects the rights of all electric drill owners and hobbyists, most of whom are law-abiding citizens, in spite of the few mentally ill drill users who use them for mass murder. Any limitation of the sale of these drills is an assault on our liberty and our Constitutionally guaranteed rights! Drills don't kill people; guns er, people kill people.

The definition I get is that an assault rifle is an automatic fire.
I don't agree with it but that's what I see.
An "Assault Rifle" is selective fire, which means it has a switch that lets you choose fully automatic or semi automatic fire.
Fully Automatic means the gun will keep shooting repeatedly as long as the trigger is held back.
Semi automatic means one shot per trigger pull.

That's fine and I know all about that but I'm talking about the assault rifle monicker.
To me to assault means to attack with anything you have in your hand or even nothing with fists.
The gun lobby gets all upset if you refer to any weapon as an assault weapon and that's what I don't get.
Assault means to attack.

You don't get it because you choose not to get it because you are biased. A gun's purpose is not only to attack. It's also to defend.

You are not getting it. The term assault rifle is what I am trying to decipher. They are all assault rifles as far as I can see and yes can be used to defend but it's not likely someone is going to be carrying concealed an AR15. Yes I am biased and so are you.

That's where you are mistaken. It takes only a few seconds to search "Assault Rifle," then you'll know the difference.
