Checks/checking account

Yes I still write checks every month and prefer it that way.I don't do any online banking or shopping I'm very leery of doing so since I've been a victim of 'identity theft' not once but twice.

I can see why you are leery. My account was compromised and funds were withdrawn. I got the money back but I don't do banking online anymore.

I still write checks as I have for years. Still pay cash at stores, grocery and otherwise. no deep thought goes into it. For me, it's just a comfortable way to handle my payments. At my age, I'll probably never change unless checks and cash are totally dropped from our financial system.

Pay most bills online. Write few checks but enter all in register. Love online banking and that I can set a limit on check amounts. On the times I write a check over the limit I am notified online. I approve and everything is fine. It keeps any transactions from going through immediately that I don't know about. I have a couple of Bank credit cards that are reward cards and its simple to check on them everyday if I want. Also nice to see what checks have cleared and easier to keep account balanced with them.

I haven't written a check in years. Everything is paid on line. I use a budget tool on line to keep track of what is due and paid, also my bank balance.

most of my bills are automatic pay, but I write about 3 checks a month. to my church, one bill have not switched to and to building center, I still do some carpenter work.

Well, I guess I'm just stubborn but........I think I will stay with the old way [checks] for awhile yet.

We hear so much about folks getting "hacked" , too me it is just an open door to have so much financial information available on/through the internet .

I suppose I'll just have to keep playing catch-up with the bank, when a glitch occurs such as it just has.

BTW, it was noted somewhere that this had been discussed in a previous thread ? If I am the cause of the 'double' ? ....... sorry'bout-dat !

@rgp .. it's not a "glitch" to have your account and the bank's not balance exactly at the end of each month. Happens often.
I haven't seen a bank statement in years, but as I recall they show you how to add outstanding checks to their balance, and it should be the same as your balance.

I usually write one check a month and that's to pay my carrying charges (co-op speak for HOA fees) only because the managing agent does not have a system in place to accept other forms of payment. If there's a second check that month, it's usually for a gift. All my bills are paid via ACH (electronic funds transfers).
