I was talking to my oldest grandson today, He is 23 yrs old and Graduated from College in June with a degree in Bio Medical Engineering .He loves to travel and so does his Girlfriend. I can't even count all the places they have traveled to so far. Now they are planning a trip to Viet Nam. They want to go from the middle Of September to the middle of October. I've done a lot of research since he told me, but I am still worried. What do you think about traveling there.

Adopted our son from there 20 years ago. Loved Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. We were there almost 3 weeks. I'd go back in a heartbeat! Wonderful people!

I think you worry too much. He will be safe over there. I have known people that went back over and they came home with some really good pictures and stories.

My daughter is planning a trip there later this year with a female friend. I have no qualms whatever about their safety. Both are sensible women who will not take unnecessary risks. You can be safe in Vietnam if you are prudent but unsafe in Sydney if you are reckless.

Many of my Nam Vet friends have traveled there to revisit sites they remember. All have reported that they were treated very well in country. The Vietnamese are culturally very friendly and welcoming to visitors. Caution and situational awareness would be prudent as in any other part of the world.

Just heard this evening that my sister and her husband are planning a week in Vietnam later this year. Tourism is well developed in Vietnam now. They will be staying at a resort on an island near Cambodia.

Well my grandson and his girlfriend arrived in Vietnam yesterday. They will be returning home in the middle of October. So I'll just be sitting here and counting the days until they come home.

I would never be able to visit Vietnam because I'd be constantly thinking of the thousands of US lives that were wasted on our debacle, over there. I would hope the irony of its thriving US tourism scene does not escape most US Citizens.

I heard from my Grandson today. He said they were having a wonderful time and they are enjoying their visit. I know I would worry no matter where he traveled, but all I can remember was how much I worried about my Husband who was in the Navy during the Viet Nam war and the friends we lost in that war. I can't wait until they are home again.

I feel the same way. I could never go there thinking of all the blood shed on that soil.
