Can't get any sleep

Sorry to hear that, Jim. You'll probably make up for it tonight. I've found that I can get away with one cup of regular coffee, with breakfast. After that, a second cup has been known to keep me up all night, too. Make sure you're cutting down drastically on the caffeine!

About deleting, you can't delete a thread you have started, but you can delete whatever you wrote in it, of course. Just wipe out your whole message and substitute the word Deleted, or whatever else you want. Happens all the time.

Sunny how will that help though. I posted a thread on the health forum some months ago. I was shocked when I saw it on a search engine! With a link here and to me. I never use google. This was supposed to be a private search engine DuckDuckGo, yet there I was. I feel as though my privacy has been raped because of this and I may leave here if I cannot change the situation. I never thought I could not delete a thread or that it would end up on a search engine. I've been very uncomfortable saying anything of consequence since and would advise everyone else to consider the possibility that what you say here is not private at all. It's an uneasy feeling and even if I deleted what I said, the title will remain and the responses and links to me and my profile which I can also no longer delete. All that is left for me to delete is myself.

No sleep last night no matter how I tried. I cannot go on like this. Have a good day friends...Cannot Delete

I usually get so wound up with the days activities that I, too, sometimes take forever to fall asleep. However, a few years ago, I got in the habit of taking a nip of flavored Vodka about 9PM (about a half shot), and that relaxes me enough that my eyes start drooping by 10PM. If we're at the casino, I have the beverage server bring me a small glass of red wine. That small amount of alcohol works great for me.
About the only downside might be if you are taking prescription drugs...you might have to check with your doctor about mixing them with any alcohol.

I didn't know that our posts here can be seen other places. Is there a way to stop that without leaving the forum ?

There are nights when I can't keep my eyes open, but it's 8 PM. If I go to bed, I'll be up at 3:30 AM, doing crossword puzzles, because I can't sleep. Then every few days or so, I could sleep 24 hr.s straight through. I know there's some kind of long term pattern to my sleeping, but I haven't figured it out. I try to go to sleep at the same time, but you can't turn off your mind, like a light switch. Since I'm retired/disabled, I can tolerate the pattern. But I couldn't, if I had to be at work most of the days per week.

@chic .... this was discussed in the forum guidelines when we first converted.

You can have a private browser, but when you post on the SF forum, it's public viewing to anyone on the Internet. That is nothing new.
People can google/ search any topic and several links might come up anywhere on the net. If their keyword search includes something you posted here, it can bring them to this board, and they may not even realize they are on this forum. I wouldn't take it personal.
It has always been that way.
If you look at the Members online to the right of the board, it shows members online and "guests". Those guests are people doing searches.

Privacy is a complete, and total, illusion, on the internet. It used to be possible to maintain a bit of privacy. Now, even from the first few minutes when you set up your new computer, everything is geared towards stripping away any privacy you wish to have. You can try to stay anonymous, a hidden face in cyberspace, but then you will not be using any new computer to even half of its abilities or its conveniences. I was amazed when I bought my computer, a few weeks ago. I experienced, first hand, what I cited, above. The way I figure it, if you're not doing anything illegal, or not sharing deep, dark secrets from your past with a select few that you want going no further, then you have nothing to fear. All others may seriously consider browsing anonymously on TOR, keeping in mind that you will no longer be able to participate in any forums or discussion groups, including those on all social media sites.

I'm so sorry, Jim. :( There's not much that's more miserable because every already miserable thing gets more so on sleepless nights . And I'm glad to know this to send you sleepy wishes for tonight!

I just searched for my SF screen name, on Google, and was able to find it. Then, it was a simple matter of finding every post I've made, in here, going back a few months. Again, if you don't want the world to be "all up in your business," don't post on any forums.

My dad would have a little Vodka before bed; probably for aches & pains as well as sleep.
I also don't sleep well half the time because at bedtime, my blood sugar is either too high or too low.

That's why I'm amazed that people criticize, complain, and defame their Own Children on forums. What one says about oneself at least implies responsibility, but to denigrate your Own Kids, whoa!

Re forum privacy = My father always said, "If you don't want it to be found out, don't do it". You could also add ''don't say it". On forums, as long as you use your nickname only and don't mention people's real names that you're talking about or tell about very unusual experiences, how is anyone going to know it's ''you'' unless they're real computer nerds. I don't worry about my online postings.

I apologize to AZJim for getting off topic, this thread is about Jim.

It wasn't the fact that my thread ended up on a search engine that bothers me. It's the fact that this unwanted exposure has caused me personal pain and I cannot delete the offensive thread, edit my profile to be more anonymous etc. etc. Who's ever heard of not being able to edit a profile? Life changes. People get divorced, or remarried, or lose a spouse. People embark upon new careers or retire from old ones. Shouldn't a profile be edited to allow for these things?

LOL, I just did a search for PVC and only got links about PVC plastic pipes. Only looked at the first page though, need to get my supper ready.

To be expected. Obviously your common material nick is not going to be associated with you, on SF, in a search. I imagine you could go through thousands of hits and not find yourself.

Not sleeping can be such a vicious cycle. I don't know how your health is, but I think it's important to get enough exercise and fresh air so that you are actually physically tired (not just mentally) at night. I have found that as I fall asleep, focusing on my breathing helps me relax. I also listen to Ocean sounds to help me relax. Plus, that little tip about Vodka isn't a bad idea either, as long as you're careful!

I'm sorry, but you have contradicted yourself. It certainly was the fact that your thread ended up on a search engine that has bothered you, because it led to the situation as you outlined above, ie. it gave you unwanted exposure. Had your thread not shown up on the search engine, you would not have had that exposure.

FWIW, I had an individual slander me on Craigslist. I contacted the company, directly, and the slanderous posting was pulled. Problem was, Google still was running it, even though the link was dead. I had to contact the legal department at Google, and threaten action, before the link disappeared, for good. This was twenty years ago. From what I hear, both Craigslist and Google are now unreachable, by phone, and won't respond to emails.

I'm not actually clear on your situation. I don't understand your profile lament. Does the Google listing lead to another forum where someone can click on your thread and see exactly who you are and where you live? If so, I can't believe that you can't contact the forum and have them pull the thread and/or remove your profile. Contact the administrator. Threaten legal action. Good luck!

I tried again after supper and wrote ''PVC on SeniorForums" and got a page in this forum's health page, although I've been all over SF.

Yep. I found an SF post of mine, on Google. What I meant, in my post about finding many more posts of mine, in here, is that even with finding a single post, anyone can then click on my user name, and then easily find a score of my past posts. I am not sure if this forum platform gives one the ability to block that feature. I'm OK with that, some aren't.

Edit your Profile, it might help somewhat..(??) @PVC
