Do you think it's creepy Jimmie Dean has been dead for 10 years, and he's still making TV ads?

I keep hearing these folksy TV promos he does for Jimmie Dean Sausages. But it kind of freaked me out when I found out that he died close to ten years ago. I had no idea. I felt creepy thinking that his company was keeping him "alive" as its spokesman. Do you think it's creepy Jimmie Dean has been dead for 10 years, and he's still making TV ads? At least, KFC admits Col. Sanders passed on.

I haven't seen that commercial in a long time. I stream mostly commercial free programming now. But it probably wouldn't creep me out. I know he's been dead for awhile. That's the thing now. Several years back, Natalie Cole sang a "duet" with her dead father. Of course she's dead now too. More recently, James Dean will be "starring" in a movie. Look how long he's been dead. I almost want to see how they're going to work that out.

We hashed this out before. Not creepy to me. His company and/or family gets the money so why is it creepy. I love his products. Had one of the breakfast sandwiches yesterday for breakfast. Really fills me up and cheaper than having to go out to a fast food place for breakfast.

More of this is in the works. The technology exists to create virtual images of deceased celebrities who will look, sound, and move like they did when alive. An animated Michael Jackson was created for a 2017 Halloween special, for example. Creepy vs. cool may hinge on the spirit in which this is done. If respectful to the deceased performer as in Natalie Cole singing with her father, it may be acceptable. Commercial and even comic exploitation of a deceased person's image, however, can be quite another matter...

I've never seen the advert because clearly it's not shown here, we don't have Jimmy Dean sausages... and if it wasn't for Big Bad John, I wouldn't have a clue who JD was... but I did learn some years ago he owned a sausage making company.

I can understand people might find it a bit strange to see a man whose been long dead promoting goods for sale today..not back in the day but today.. however, I don't think it should be taken any more seriously than long dead actors' films being shown..

I remember one of our most popular comedians here died from prostate cancer 17 years ago . He worked almost up until the day he died, so it came as a shock 4 years after his death that we should now see him in a public health advert on TV tslking about trying to keep people protected from Prostate cancer .

I know it's not the same thing as promoting sausages.. god help us.. but the principle is the same, ... and now 17 years later the animation industry is far advanced from that

I believe this has been hashed here before??

No "creepier" than Bourdain's show still being on in rerun......

Oh, I do not know. I never much liked Bourdain, but my husband loved his show, and I know he had a loyal following. So, his show may still be relevant. At least the producers are not creating "new" shows.
In that respect, should we stop showing movies, tv shows, or playing music of people who have died? But I guess that question will take this thread too far off topic.
I tell you, watching Jimmy Dean commercials does not make me want to run out and buy his breakfast sandwiches. I do buy them sometimes, because they are not bad for a quick, not really healthy breakfast.
