  • Reuben Rose, dressed as Marvel character Deadpool was hauled off a train at Blacktown by police
  • Concerned commuters had reported him after seeing his guns, swords and grenade
  • His superhero get-up, however was in aid of children’s hospice Bear Cottage

Police stormed a packed Sydney peak hour train this morning after reports of a man armed with handguns, grenades and samurai swords was travelling in the last carriage.

Scared passengers on the Emu Plains to CBD morning express called triple 0, telling police a man wearing a menacing red and black one-piece costume was carrying deadly weapons.

When the train pulled in at Blacktown station about 7.20am, uniformed officers jumped on board and bundled the man out of the carriage onto the platform.

Another five officers, including a sergeant and a constable wearing bulletproof vests, surrounded the man who appeared to have two automatic pistols strapped to his legs; a bandolier of bullets across his chest, grenades hanging from his belt and two samurai swords sticking out of his black bag.

How sick carrying any sort of gun fake or otherwise. What decent charity would want fake guns? Fake guns have been used to commit crimes

Warrigal I know you didn't want this to turn into a serious thread, but with all due respect I am not amused.!! This man for all his good intentions for the charity was an absolute idiot for travelling dressed in a mask (albeit a comic character costume) strapped with what looked to other people as an arsenal of ammunition and weapons!! What on earth was he thinking travelling on a train in this day of terrorist activity everywhere particularly on public transport.

Absolutely Nuts!! He should have taken the costume with him to work and got changed there!

I can't help feeling sorry for the people he scared witless thinking they may be on the train with a killer.

Sorry, I'm usually a lighthearted fun person but this is an act of sheer stupidity IMO and had to be taken seriously!!!

Well, I didn't see him but I think the Tupperware container on his lap filled with cup cakes would have allayed my fears.
I'm not up on Marvel comics, so I wouldn't recognise Deadpool.
I do see lots of little boys dressed as Spiderman though.

So, What was he charged with? I think there were too many Nervous Nellies on the train who turned him in.

To ME, it would seem obvious that he wasn't a threat to anybody and the hand wringers went overboard.

this just seems stupid to me, with the things going on in the world today, who wouldn't be afraid of someone with a bunch of (what appeared to be real) weaponry? I mean, we had a idea a few years ago to wear some stupid halloween masks, on halloween, and go into a local restaurant. We changed our minds thinking we would probably frighten people, and even be arrested. You just can't do that kind of stuff in this day and age. People are frightened, and for good reason.

How many times have we heard, "they were such quiet, nice kids" or, he was just a regular guy. I mean I can't say I would panic, I'd be more like "nice outfit", but then I haven't ever been anywhere, or close to people that have been attacked, or killed in bombings. It's like some news is so unreal, or far away, I don't realize the impact on lives. I think it was SB that mentioned having to be close to a situation before you can realize what it is "really" like.

I wonder what would have happened if this guy had tried that at any large American Amtrak station, such as Grand Central in New York City.

Im guessing within 1 mile radius of that station EVERYTHING would be shut down including the airports.

Grand Central is a few miles from GROUND ZERO.

He wasn't charged with anything. Before the police arrived he was dancing with ladies in the aisle with a rose in his mouth. The police basically checked him out, told him he should carry the fake weapons in his bag so as not to frighten people, and let him go on his way.

I wasn't there, but I imagine that the body language of a man wearing a balaclava in order to commit an armed robbery is very different to a grown man, wearing a superhero dressup costume in order to rise money for a charity. One is menacing, the other is showing off like an overgrown little boy. At least, that's what I imagine it to be.

There are a lot of photos of him on the train. People seem to have understood what was happening and were happy to take snapshots.
