Daylight Saving Time

A positive effect of these time changes is the reminders to check the smoke alarm batteries twice a year.....good advice.
The new smoke alarms come with a non-replaceable 10 year battery, once they've gone off or reach the 10 year limit, you get a new one. So that reason for the twice yearly time change is going away. Don...

Decades ago, I set all of the clocks forward an hour on May 31st. On April Fool's day my husband went to work an hour early and was the only one going into the plant. Too bad I couldn't see it myself. At least he didn't have a cell phone back then to blow me out.
I agree that you can't really mess with the time too much anymore. Correct time is on your phones, TV, computer, thermometer, car dash, and even your microwave.

LOL...I think you might have meant March 31st :D...you had me confused for a minute...

Ruthanne has already started a thread on this subject, titled, ‘Don't forget, and I bet I won’t be the last person to say it’

Sorry Ruthanne, I’m not trying to bomb it, just wondered what happened if any members had forgotten to adjust the time ...

thanks wren....i totally forgot about the clocks being changed.......forward is it ? 🥴🤔
sorry ruthanne, ..I never saw your Thread .....

There really doesn't seem to be a legitimate reason for clock changing. If in your area, winter brings only 8 hours of sunlight/day, no amount of clock juggling is going to increase the amount of daylight. The true reason for clock changing is there's a lobby in D.C. for it. Somebody thinks they won't be making a buck, if there's no clock changing.

Yeah, newer technology. However, our house had hard wired detectors, with battery backup, installed when they built it, so the batteries are just there in case of a power outage. They all still seem to work good, and I just use these semi-annual clock changes as a reminder to test the detectors, and meter the batteries to make sure they are still reading a good strong 9V, and replace any that are not.

Don M., my main point is we're only on Standard Time for 4 months, November to March, we're on DST for 8 months, March to November, it just doesn't make sense to me anymore. Also, smoke alarms usually start to chirp or make some kind of noise when the batteries start to get low :). Don...

Yup, and that loud, intermittent "Chirp" usually starts up in the middle of the night, and can be a real PITA at 2AM. Far easier to spend a few minutes a couple of times/year checking the batteries.

I do wish we’d settle on a time and stick with with it. I sometime don’t change my clock for two or three days after the great occasion as it doesn’t make much difference to retired folk

I seem to be in the minority but I don't really mind the time changes. Compared to other things that have to be dealt with during a typical year, I don't find resetting the clocks to be particularly difficult or stressful. It's just another event that marks the passage of the year.

In terms of "Don't sweat the small stuff", semiannual time changes definitely qualify as "small stuff".

It's been many years since the last time I forgot to adjust the clocks. My cell phone and computer automatically update. I wish my alarm clock did. And my microwave, and oven, and the clock over the sink.

Wondering if we will be doing away with it like the EU.
Radio controlled clocks are the answer. They do themselves.
Never forget but i remember a friend in uni putting her clock back in March. She was two hours behind the rest of us!

I'll be changing my clocks starting Saturday evening, I never forget daylight savings, start thinking about it days beforehand. I like the time change, makes spring feel like spring and winter like winter. It's all good for me!

Tonight we set our clocks an hour ahead. I was wondering, is this done all over the world, or is it just a U.S. thing?
