Is it just me - or does it feel like we're just puppets on strings?

With so many odd things occurring one after another in 2020 - It seems to me that someone else is pulling the strings that we're all dancing to. Or am I just getting paranoid in my second mid-life crisis? Or is it simply just another election year and I wasn't paying attention in the past? (Remember dear friends - no political talk.)

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I was just discussing that with a friend.. that I feel we are puppets on a string.

I have to agree we are puppets on a string. Instead of dancing to it thousands are dying from it.

Now we can't use cash at Burger King, the car wash, sometimes at Walmart. Some places say because of covid and some say because of a coin shortage.

I don’t feel that way. The virus and the associated political and economic conditions are certainly very confining, but within those boundaries we still have much leeway, can make any number of different choices. There seems to be pretty wide agreement on what are the healthiest ones. “Odd things” have been happening everywhere through human history; the problem now is that we learn of them a split second after they happen, even if they have nothing to do with us as individuals. Overload.

Sounds pretty bad over there in England, Rosemarie. Fortunately, things aren't at that point here. In fact, we seem to be polarized about everything, 50-50, right down the middle. I don't get the feeling that anyone is pulling strings; if anything, it's more like a tug of war.

In the US, we see everything in terms of RED State/BLUE State. You can tell someone's political affiliation , if they are wearing a mask, or not. We don't seem to have anything that can't be viewed in partisan agendas.

I agree. I know plenty of people of every age and both sides of the political aisle. All are wearing masks and being careful. Even those who didn't believe this was serious in the beginning (Reps and Dems) are now following guidelines in hopes of not getting sick or further spreading this.

As for being puppets on strings, I read, learn, investigate and make decisions based on the best information I can gather.

To some extent human behavior has always been manipulated by others. Guess it all comes down to whose agendas one trusts. These days, we can choose between the minority of politicians or the vast majority of scientists, virologists, epidemiologists and MDs.

Yup. Most of them, anyway.

But it isn't just a political matter. It's also a division based on maturity and intelligence.

I'm sorry you feel that way and hope you're able to find a way to feel otherwise or to come to peace with your situation.

I don't feel like a puppet but I do think that there are many different factions trying to "play" us. The way I get around that is to find people I trust for getting information, following the information they provide and looking into any situations where I feel played by the information that's been given. So far it's working quite well for me overall.

It's all about being able to "Adapt". There's so much happening these past few months that "Normal" is almost non-existent.
