i have to renew my drivers licence in october but you have to make an appointment---i keep calling and their is no answer--i filled out the paper on line with all my information like they said to do and they said i would recieve it in 30 days-- i havent recieved it yet--they said i would have to have my picture and signature on it but i cant get thru to the dmv--they are not taking any phone calls-has anyone else had this problem?

haha! Here in NM, anyone over 65 has to have any marriage or divorce papers, and any name change paperwork from their entire life, in order to get a driver's licence. red tape!

I drove past our local DMV office, a few days ago, and there was a long line of people waiting on the sidewalk. I suspect this virus has totally turned their policies upside down, too. Luckily, our licenses are good until well into next year, so I hope, by then, that things are starting to return to normal.

I need to renew my state ID - it expired 2 months ago but license services are just now re-opening. I called first, was told they're only allowing 4 customers at a time and we must line up outside. I plan to get there very early sometime within next few days.

50 states 51 different sets of rules and situations.

Mine is good until next year. I hope they have it under controll by then.

🤬Is there any state that has adequate staff in their DMO?
The lines, the frayed tempers,...

Yes Ken, that is great information.... I found that out last March, and decided what the heck! ... I didn't have to renew for six months but decided to renew mine right then and there. So glad I did.
Can't imagine dealing with it now or late this summer.

when i went into the dmv site they told me to fill out a form on dvs they sent me a paper then said i need an eye exam -the eye doctor fax them a copy of my eye exam but i didnt recieve no laminated card-it cost me 8.00 i havent recieved a card

i must of messed up somwhere-not unless they are wating for the eye exam--its been 30 days and all i got was a paper saying i have no accidents or tickets

My licence expires on the 24th July, but I can't
get it renewed yet, I can't get a reply when I call,
the Doctor won't give me the medical, she says
that all licence renewals are put back 7 months,
I can still use my expired one till next year.

Mike.

My driver's license is up for renewal in a few months so I was planning to get a Real ID. Instead I'll go ahead with an online renewal and put off the Real ID until after COVID is no longer a danger.

For renewals or first time NM license?

It may be true for first time NM licenses, but it is also if you want one of those federally compliant drivers' licenses that certify that you are a citizen and allow you travel on airplanes.

For males, it just means you just bring your birth certificate. For females who have been married, it is much more of a hassle, because you have to provide certified proof of each name change, i.e., certified copy of marriage certificate. This has proved a big problem for many older women who may have been married multiple times, especially if they don't have certified copies and/or the state in which they were married back in the mists of time can't find the certificate (courthouse burned down, docs lost in flood, etc.). It can also get very expensive. There are other problems, such as that you cannot use your maiden name as your middle name, or the initial of your maiden name, even if that's how you've been known legally forever, unless you do a formal name change (expensive hassle).

If you can't find or get all that stuff, and you are already a NM licensed driver, you can just renew your old license, but it won't be one of those federally compliant ones.

Big fat hassle.

Wow. Don't need that in California. A valid passport that matches my current name, plus a SS document (W-2 or 1099 from SSA), plus a couple of almost any kind of mailed proof of residence are sufficient.

This is for the REAL ID.

Good grief! They don't use your past NM driver's license information as their basis for renewing? That's so odd.
They will if you are under 65. Older women are up in arms about it! They have to contact court house info in other states from 40 years ago for marriage and divorce records. Half of them can't even remember in what county their records are listed. This was a new ruling when the new NM governer took over. I have a friend who can't access her past divorce records and said she can't renew her licence and is considered an alien. She's furious!

Stay calm and carry on.
We were told for vehicle tags to just hang on and they will contact us when we need to renew. It's on hold indefinitely.

OK - if it's for REAL ID, that makes more sense.

CA's REAL ID to some degree accepts US passports having vetted that information. (When I first got a passport I had to show my marriage license to document my name change.)

REAL IDs aren't required except for driving, just for air travel, and a passport suffices for that.
