My beautiful daughter sent me an alligator bag a while back. She thought I could show some class in my mundane existence (her perception).
"It's worth $700, Mom!" a Lovely shape, a glossy golden sheen, all the buckles and clasps to identify it as exquisite. It would fit a sophisticated New Yorker with a few dozen $900 suits and places to wear them, an extensive shoe wardrobe and a slightly European accent. This should belong to a chic, jewelry wearing, manicured cosmopolitan.
it's now on a shelf in my closet.
My purse, bag, whatever you want to call it, is a simple, thick, soft deerhide open on top with saddlebag straps; coinpurse is a simple deerskin bag. This goes with me and my surroundings. This fits with my boots, levies, denim jacket, plaid shirts and I can wear it to the local mercantile.
Semi-rural New Mexico, dirt clod kickin, timeworn books, big, shaggy dog, collectible saddles, Mexican pavers on the floor, old ammo boxes sitting around. I'm wooden barrels, dove-tail boxes, old carved wooden picture frames. I'm Pine trees, mountain streams and tiny blue wildflowers. I'm kick-back!
Each of us has our own individual style with which we feel comfortable. To integrate airs or pretences just doesn't fit right.
That purse didn't fit me. I'd love to speak French, but I don't. Love to travel internationally, but I don't.
"I could be General Lee, but I ain't!" (from Lonesome Dove)
You guys, Do you have an individual style?
