Have your own style?

I would never in a million years knowingly buy anything marked as "designer". To me, it's really pretentious and I can't bear show-offs.

In fact, these designers should pay people to advertise their brands!

I'm with you, RR. I hate stuff splattered with logos.....like I want "Juicy" plastered across my butt...LOL.

I'll only buy a designer if their kind of clothing fits my shape, i.e. I'm always looking for liz clairborne stuff (but only if it's REALLY on sale or in a resale shop) because that line is made for mature women, not anorexic 18-year-olds. It's always cut a little more generous across the back and under the arms, etc.

My basic style is simple and classic; not expensive either. I can't bring myself to spend hundreds on a bag/purse. But I am very picky with purses; you have no idea how many I have returned. I prefer simple and clean lines; solid colored too. I wouldn’t use the alligator one either.

I had an alligator purse and matching 4" pumps to go with it back in the 60's when fashion was important to me. I wish I had some memory of what the ensemble cost, but it was mandatory that the bag and shoes always match then.

I gave up "style" long ago and now I wear what's comfortable, and seldom buy anything that isn't on sale.
I recently bought a Coach handbag from an outlet store, and paid a fraction of the original cost. I must admit the find made me happy and I adore the look and feel of it. I could have afforded one long ago, but my frugal mind just wouldn't let me do it.

Bowmore is ever so grateful that I'm not a high maintenance wife. ;)

When I was a kid we were poor. I made my own clothes. That's when fabric was cheaper. Once I could afford "nicer" things, I still didn't want to wear them just because they were in style or someone else thought they were cool. Over time I'm seen styles come in, and everyone had to have them. Then everybody decided they sucked and bought something else. Now some of those styles that everyone decided sucked, are back off and on, and I still think they suck. I still make my own clothes, mostly shirts, if I can't find what I like. Some of my clothes have been in the closet for 40 years. I gave a few of them to the thrift stores and then regretted I did that. I wish I hadn't given away two of my leather jackets.

As for purses, I think it's ridiculous that as women we carry purses. So I tried to wean myself off of them. I got smaller and smaller purses hoping to eliminate them entirely. Tell you what, it didn't work. I still think it's ridiculous, but they serve a purpose and I've accepted that. I realized the other day that the purse I now have is a lot like the ones my mother used to carry, when she was my age. The difference with mine is that it is a crossbody bag. My mom left her small wallet on top of her car, once and drove off without it. Someone found it and used her ID. It caused her all kinds of issues. So I put an elastic band on my small wallet and sewed it to my purse, so I wouldn't lose it.

I wear jeans, all the time. I got rid of my dresses. I have no need to show off my legs. And I kept in mind what a male friend of mine said about dresses - "easy access." When I told my husband and another boyfriend that they both said that was how guys think about dresses. Once upon a time I wanted to "strut" it. Even if it looked that good now, I wouldn't want to do it. I've outgrown the need to show my stuff.

I think I have a Prada stashed in storage. It's not really been used so it's stiff & I'm a little concerned about using it here for fear it will get stolen. Plus it's not near big enough. LOL

I should add I didn't buy the thing. It was a hand me down from an aunt.

Phoenix, You know what? I agree with you! But I guess we need something to carry credit cards, money, phone, crap. etc.. I wore a leather backpack as long as I could before it looked "weird" because of my age. (giggle)
I'm also worried that if I just carried a wallet in my back pocket, it would fall out. The age thing should not dictate what we do, unless now we'd fall over. Grin.

My handbags come from a company called Haiku and are made from recycled plastic soda bottles. I'm not sure what that says about my style...
Very unique! I'd love to see them. A relative on my son-in-law's side had a handbag made from folded gum wrappers. I think it was covered with shellac. Definitely one-of-a-kind.

I'm not much into purses, the ones I had are gifts and/or rewards in the past. My niece came from France and bought an LV for me which I didn't use a lot. XH bought Chanel purses for me in Japan. I have given them away. The only purse I keep and use is Hermes Birkin from dad(It's not the brand, it's the giver that makes it precious to me).

I love shoes but since I have small feet (size 6.5 asian) there's only one cousin of mine who's thrilled when I gave her my JCs, CLs, which she said a pair alone was much higher than her mortgage. I was more than glad to give it to her than bring it to SA or Goodwill.

I know men have it easier. I am retired, so my summer attire consists of t-shirt, shorts and flip flops. My winter attire is t-shirt, Dockers slacks and boat shoes with socks.
It helps to live on the California Central Coast. Some years ago, we took a Winter in Yellowstone trip, and Kayelle said she had to wear a week's worth of clothes. It was 20 below.

My style is comfortable, casual, and classic. Lately I've been wearing clothes from 30 years ago that fit again after losing some weight. As clothes get too floppy to wear, I find a basic wardrobe on sale to get me through that size. I can get more wear out of pants that tie at the waist, but when they become clown pants they have to go. I prefer short, seersucker dresses to wear around the house in the summer. Cool and non binding.
My bag is an ameribag, which is also called the back bag because it fits and doesn't hurt your back to carry it. They are made of cloth and are like half backpacks. After switching to them a few years ago, I won't carry anything else. Going without a bag would be wonderful, but I got stuff that makes life more comfortable that needs to stay close by.

Have your own style?

Indubiously, dear lady.

When I parade around the town in my glittery, orange tuxedo with matching knee high wellies, every man in sight looks at me in amazement and thinking, "Wow, I wish I had an outfit like that." 😊

Likewise., especially when I'm out cruising the boulevard.
