This has to stop, some how, some way.

Hundreds of people swept through the Magnificent Mile and other parts of downtown Chicago early Monday, smashing windows, looting stores, confronting police and at one point exchanging gunfire with officers, authorities said.

More than 100 people were arrested as of 9 a.m., according to Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown. Thirteen officers were injured during the unrest, including a sergeant who was hit by a bottle. A civilian and private security guard were shot and wounded.

“What occurred in our downtown and surrounding communities was abject criminal behavior, pure and simple,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said. “And there cannot be any excuse for it. Period.”

The looting began shortly after midnight as people darted through broken store windows and doors along Michigan Avenue carrying shopping bags full of merchandise. Cars dropped off more people as the crowd grew.

One woman with shopping bags in her hands fell on the sidewalk as an officer was chasing her. Another woman appeared to have been pepper-sprayed. A rock was thrown at a squad car.

You do not want to be in a riot- a riot is a group of people that have crossed the
line of their own personal safety in their desire to commit mayhem on anything or persons targeted.

As far as I know, if a person is charged with rioting, it’s treated as a felony. Demonstrations are normally acceptable, unless the participants are trespassing, then maybe they would be charged with a misdemeanor, but having a sit-in or going on a hunger strike generally is treated as a “So what?”

From the film clips of the Chicago looters, it’s just more if the same that these big cities have been dealing with. It really needs to stop. These cities that are losing police protection are going to see their citizens moving out. Already Cuomo is begging for his citizens to come back to the city.

These Mayors and Governors are about to learn a very valuable lesson.

🙄I've got my social worker's phone # by my phone-I'm ready.:giggle:-

Addendum:
of course, have my pocket .22 in my hip pocket, got a long-barrel for my social worker
if she ever shows up

("Hombre" Paul Newman had an 1873 Winchester, he actually used this in the movie.)

Lori Lightfoot is the Mayor of Chicago. She’s been negatively involved with her Aldermen for various problems. I think some of these Mayors are more concerned about their party’s platform than taking care of their citizens. Many of these stores and people leaving the city won’t be coming back anytime soon, which will take away from their tax base, which will cause their city great financial stress.

I guess that I should be ashamed for thinking this, but they deserve it. Each Mayor takes an oath of office when they are sworn in. She has not upheld her end of the bargain, nor has she been true to her word.

This would never be happening under the rule of Mayor Daily. See "Anatomy Of A Police Riot". The 1968 democratic convention. Some friends and I went downtown to see first hand. Once we saw what was going on we got the heck out of there pronto.

I told my wife just after I had heard of the attack on Chicago on Sunday night into Monday that this was a planned assault. Today, we find out that it was indeed a planned attack on the city.

The more I see of this kind of stupidity on the news, the happier I am to be living in the boondocks. Perhaps a large number of the people who have been able to work from home, as a result of this virus, will consider permanently moving away from these cities, and the idiots who are trying to destroy them.

One thing is for sure, any progress that might be made by movements such as BLM will be set back substantially by the actions of the rioters and looters.

On the bright side the signs for de funding the police seem to have disappeared.

Seriously though taxes to pay for debt in Chicago if reopening stores & job loss doesn't happen. That will only increase the debt that Illinois Senate President Don Harmon, hopes to get $41 billion from the feds for pension relief.

What good is funding the police doing in these cities where violence is occurring? The mayors in these cities are telling their police to “stand down.” Finally, Lightfoot saw the light and allowed the police to make arrests and actually kept some of them in jail. The State Police were also also called in to help, which this mayor has no control over.

As for giving these mis-managed cities money for any reason, I think not. If a mayor chooses to allow their city to undergo destruction by anarchists while tying the hands of their police, tough noogies. You get what you asked for.

I am beginning to believe that someone or some group is behind these riots. They seemed to well organized and the cities being attacked are of one similar persuasion. Sooner or later, it will come to light.

For sure. The criminals and thugs are using these "protests" as a gateway to loot and rob. They are going to destroy their areas businesses, and leave the residents with fewer places to shop, etc. There has been speculation that an organization called Antifa is increasingly responsible for a lot of these actions. As a result, the honest people will take the biggest brunt of these stupid actions.

Whoa, Don, that's quite a leap of logic! A bunch of stupid thugs go out there to mindlessly start looting, and immediately you are putting a right-wing political interpretation on it? How do we know the looters aren't inspired by some conservative political group instead, just to stir up trouble? See how dumb that kind of thinking sounds?

Plus, "there has been speculation" sounds an awful lot like "a lot of people are saying...". What people? Well, a lot.

You need some education on what Antifa stands for. (And no, I don't belong to Antifa or any other left-wing group, I'm a moderate liberal. I just don't like to see this kind of liberal-bashing rear its ugly head at every opportunity.) Read this.

It seems to be happening in many cities and towns and frequently instigated by outsiders or radical fringes trying to stir up the locals. Some will regret what they did down the road. Others will confuse/conflate political protest with CRIME pure and simple.

Might seem radical but if one wants radical change have the guts and start an actual revolution rather than just follow a mob.

The two groups Sunny mentioned are mobs.
We know the white supremacy groups practice mob behavior.
( I have always dismissed the white supremacy groups as yokels,
merely a group of dumb people that enjoy being around other dumb folks.
Within any group there are those that yearn for leadership and the power
it givens them.. These power people are the dangerous part of these yokel
groups.)

Antifa may have sweet sounding goals, but there behavior is that of a mob.
They too have people that want to be leaders and enjoy the potency that
leadership brings. (I do not understand how have followers brings potency
, but it does.)

My goals are to stay away from groups, ignore their catch phrases, look with a
jaundiced eye on any that would like to direct my behavior.
