Exercise anyone?

Wow!! He is amazing! He would put guys 1/4 of his age to shame!

I do serious workouts but they look like a picnic compared to his.

He is an inspiration for everyone who is well enough to try and work in a little more
exercise every day.

Since I work out in the mornings - 8:45 to about 10:15 - I see a lot of people in my gym in their 70's working out, and a few look like maybe early 80's.

He is very agile for 81. It keeps the brain active and healthy at the same time too. Good for him!

I like the program that the NFL promotes for kids to Play 60 (minutes) ...
Seniors need it too ... an hour of physical activity daily is important for overall health, whatever the activity is... stretching muscles, lifting.

I did my 60 with yard mowing, raking pine needles, and bagging leaves this morning. ..:D

Another Jack LaLanne going at it. For those that can, go for it. For those that can't, like us, we just watch Gunsmoke. Awe, we get exercise just walking thru Wal Mart or taking our boat out, when we can. A lot of older people get exercise without even entering a gym or fitness center.

There is an emphasis on exercise..but when I was younger I did speed ice skating...now, my ankles, knees and hips give me hell..

I often wonder whether this is due to that strenuous exercise?..

I run 2 miles a day, 5 days a week, but very little of what he does in the video. I am sure that he has been doing this for some time. It is all good. He should live a long, healthy life. I am sure that he takes care of his nutrition as well.

This is genetics at work - it's rare that you could achieve that level of working out just by nutrition and dedication.

It's like with the bodybuilders that try to sell their "secrets" to the common folk - you'll never look like them no matter how long you live in a gym.

It's good to take some excercise.... but, as SifuPhil points out, most of our health is down to genetics. You can run every day and do a zillion sit-ups and still drop dead with a heart attack.
If you enjoy your excercise, that's good, but it won't keep you going until your'e 95 if your body is pre-programmed to to go earlier, however, it will make you feel better and more supple. I walk [not run or jog] do the household chores and a bit of gardening and that's enough for me.Moderation in all things.

I admire people with the kind of focus that the guy in the video obviously has. One of my daughters is like that. Her happy times are sweating it out at the gym.

Personally, I like to do what's necessary and not much more. It's funny, I used to be a workaholic and driven to accomplish the entire to-do list, had an at home gym..... but I finally came to my senses! Now it takes twice as long to cross the yard because I might just stop half way and just listen to the breeze stirring the leaves of the ancient maples in the woods surrounding the house.

In fact, Debby, it's probably better for your health that you DO stop to listen to the breeze in the maples.:)

Someone asked me if I enjoy working out (with a tone insinuating why would I do that to myself since it can't be fun). I replied that I enjoy the results of working out, and I'm very unhappy with the results if I don't workout. Sure, I'd rather be on a beach sipping a pina colada, but the benefits far outweigh the hard work and sweat to do it.

Plenty of time to relax and enjoy nature, etc. Where I live I'm surrounded by scenic beauty and often the only sound is birds.

I do exercise; swimming and water aerobics were favorite; other days walked on treadmill about 1 1/2 half miles about 3-4 times a week. Now with this bothersome hip bursitis cannot do either! Scheduled to start PT next week and I WILL find a way to either return to these or find another road!

I believe in doing all we are able to do to keep mobile. We can't all be where this guy is, but there are still things to keep us moving to the best of "our" abilities, plus eating well, and lots of water:) I just never want to give up trying. There will be days when I won't try, but others I will, that's progress anyway;) Thanks for the cool vid JPM:)

I find pushing 70 is exercise enough for me. No, seriously, I do a lot of walking and occasionally (when I run out of excuses) work out at the gym. Unfortunately, when they said "Pilates", I thought they said "Pie and Lattes" and boy was I disappointed when I got to class! Won't be going back there again....

The guy in the video has really put a lot of work into achieving that level of fitness. There's a guy at the gym that I go to that is in his 80s- all us guys in our early 60s would do well to take inspiration from. The fact of the matter is that older people must work harder to keep their muscles(see article: webMD).
