for a while, i was on a collecting kick. started with 3 skillets i found at a yard sale... i seem to remember a buck a piece. they were totally crusted over and gross, but were the "name" that TV chefs talked about Griswold, Wagner & Lodge. Since it was summer and typical New jersey weather, wasn't about to put thru self-cleaning oven cycle. i went quick & dirty... committed heresy and used spray oven cleaner. once cleaned up a well RE-seasoned, they were pretty much "non-stick".
then i started finding pieces on a regular basis at yard sales. i never spent over $5 for any one piece. a grill/griddle to cover 2 burners on gas stove. a Dutch oven. unfortunately, an accident made it impossible to deal with that kind of weight, so i started giving it away. SIL & niece politely declined... preferred non-stick. i did keep a few things. a 12" round Griswold griddle pan... slick as glass and great for grilled cheese. i found a CI muffin pan... one of these days i'll make pop-overs.
do not bother with anything made in China... crap stuff. i would stick with Griswold & Wagner. i would look in thrift stores and at yard sales.
