Do you use cast iron frying pans ?

When we moved in here, I got rid of the glass cooktop - hated it! I now have a gas cooktop and use my one cast iron pan frequently. Is especially good for bacon or steak and I have a cobbler recipe (from Pinterest) for a cast iron skillet that is wonderful.

i agree cast iron pans work better on gas stoves because the heat is easier to regulate.

My husband has 3 or 4 skillets including one almost big enough to fry a whale in. Also 2 Dutch ovens. I have him keep them with his camping supplies in his shop. They are too big and too heavy for me to fool with. There is a 5 incher in the house I use for eggs. My mom made the best fudge in an iron skillet. She had an electric stove but I do agree gas is better.

I have 5 of different sizes that I haven't used in years. But, I'm afraid I'm going to be using some of then soon if I have to start making my biscuits again. I haven't used them in 10 years of more because I've been buying my biscuits that were just like they had been made from scratch but I can't find them now. The bakeries aren't doing that any more or at least the ones around here aren't. They have me spoiled and it's been so long since I've made them, it will probably be a joke trying to eat some I've made after all of these years. :)

I switch back & forth between cast iron, and stainless. The cast is a pain [seasoning] , no soap , etc.....But it does cook well.

I have 3 cast Iron pans... 2 sit at the back of the cupboard, just too heavy to be comfortable to work with for me, now.. I still manage to use the smaller of the 3 occasionally

for a while, i was on a collecting kick. started with 3 skillets i found at a yard sale... i seem to remember a buck a piece. they were totally crusted over and gross, but were the "name" that TV chefs talked about Griswold, Wagner & Lodge. Since it was summer and typical New jersey weather, wasn't about to put thru self-cleaning oven cycle. i went quick & dirty... committed heresy and used spray oven cleaner. once cleaned up a well RE-seasoned, they were pretty much "non-stick".

then i started finding pieces on a regular basis at yard sales. i never spent over $5 for any one piece. a grill/griddle to cover 2 burners on gas stove. a Dutch oven. unfortunately, an accident made it impossible to deal with that kind of weight, so i started giving it away. SIL & niece politely declined... preferred non-stick. i did keep a few things. a 12" round Griswold griddle pan... slick as glass and great for grilled cheese. i found a CI muffin pan... one of these days i'll make pop-overs.

do not bother with anything made in China... crap stuff. i would stick with Griswold & Wagner. i would look in thrift stores and at yard sales.

I used them for years. On my wood cook stove and gas stove. That was all I had. When I moved here I sold my collection of cast iron which was about 20 different types. I kept the small skillet, 2 tiny ones (big enough for frying onions or a small burger) and a round griddle. The bigger ones were all too heavy for me and I only cook for one now.

I use my small skillet daily. I keep it seasoned and rarely have had to season it again. Unless something gets burned in it, which I make sure never to do. I think cooking in cast iron makes cooking easier as long as your pan is seasoned well.

Its very unfortunate, but I developed Castironitis many years ago....
Think I caught it from my Great Grandmother.... still have her Dutch Oven.
We have 3 Fry pans in the oven we use every day, 3 more in our camper. have 4 more in a cooking box....
Dutch Ovens anyone????? Have 2 regular ones... Legged camp ovens.... a 16 inch, 3 12s with one being a deep, 3 10s and 2 8 inch.
Have a half pint one for sauces and melting butter. even have a waffle maker....
Several muffin pans... including a dinosaur shaped one...
And then theres about 200 Lbs of rusted junk Ive not done any thing with.... including a 3 gallon pour spout wash pot dated 1896

I have a 10 inch and two 8 inch skillets plus a 10 inch griddle that I use a lot. I just sold the rest of our collection last year. Several years ago I bought these at a yard sale for $75. I kept these four and sold the rest at auction for $255.

For cooking on a gas stove, nothing better in my books. Two of these pans belonged to my mother, one I picked up at a yard sale for a dollar. They said it was too rusty to clean up. It is the one I use most for steaks etc. , regulated heat over an open flame stove or out by a fire. Fresh fish over an open fire, incredible.
This is making me hungry....🦐🐟😅😅:devilish:
