Patient shaming over cancelled visits ?

Has anyone postponed or cancelled a doctor or dentist visit since the pandemic started ? I cancelled a doctor visit in April but finally went this week.My BP was a little high and I told the doctor maybe it was due to a slight uneasiness over being in a doctors office for the first time in 10 months. He acted as though I had insulted him and launched into a diatribe about how his office was safer than any other place I go since they take your temperature .Dr. Fauci has called temperature checks for Covid "safety theater" as people can be asymptomatic or be contagious for days before showing symptoms.I felt he tried to make me feel foolish and cowardly for even bringing it up.This after I sat in his waiting room for 20 minutes with 2 men,one who was coughing and hacking and the other who told the receptionist that he had just returned from a 1500 mile car trip to Florida.I'm almost 70,so feel I have some right to be uneasy going to a doctors office these days and don't like a young doctor trying to shame me for for being honest.Anyone else had a similar experience ?

My doctor understands my apprehension about an in-clinic visit, though they do take precautions to sanitize, etc. I had a couple of telephone "visits" before going for my flu shot a few weeks ago.

Your young doctor needs to assume a better bedside manner. Hopefully, sooner than later.

Welcome to the forum, John.

Welcome to the Group!.jpeg @john danson Happy you found SF. Think we've all experienced the bad so called Bedside Manners in a lot of places. Very rude and not at all very pleasing. Lots of interesting stuff going on here. Pull up a chair. ENJOY.

Welcome.

I'm sorry that was your experience. If it's an option for you I would think about finding another primary care physician, but I know that isn't an option for everyone. I think that your concerns are well founded and hope that you remain uninfected and healthy.

I am happy to say that I haven't had your experience. I've got Kaiser and I've been to their local facility three times (blood tests, vaccinations and seeing a doctor) over the period of five days last month, the first visits I've had since January. They were extremely good at keeping people separated, following strict mask and social distancing checks and getting you in and out as quickly as possible. I have a condition that was confirmed in December that I will eventually need to have an operation for, but they have been very understanding at my putting it off until the threat of Covid has been diminished to a level I'm comfortable with. They also have a really good video appointment app which I used before my primary care physician referred me to a specialist.

I am a physician:
I am smarter than you
I know more than you can possibly understand
I am a great healer
I deserve all the prestige you can muster
I am so in love with myself
You peasants should stoop and bow
That will be $200.00

"Standard they know you better" and dislike when you challenge that notion. " Doctor with Degree complex ". I fell and broke my foot and I Told the doctor that my back was broken. He came back upset that the X-ray prove I was correct. A different cardiac doctor informed I had three months to live, should of seen doctors reaction to see me 8 year's after saying that. I'm still very on the edge, but I'm 🆗 for now... Trust yourself and Live your best Life Always....

NAILED IT! And you didn't miss a single one.

I cancelled an appointment 4 months ago. I knew what type of B.S. reaction I'd get if I voiced any Corona concern (the same reaction you got), so instead, I hinted that I might have Coronavirus. I said, "I'll make another appointment when I feel better." It worked.
The only reason I see my doctor is because they won't refill prescriptions if I don't.

Too right @john danson I hate the way some and I say only some
Medical Professionals who are younger than my grandchildren
feel it necessary to make their patients feel worse than when they came to the Clinics
Not good enough

Yikes! This happened to me one hour ago:
Called physician's office for refills on Monday. Find out only one put in. So, an hour ago I called Dr. office to speak with staff (as I knew he would squiggle out of actually trying to speak to a patient. Had to ask staff today "Does he think he's God on Mt. Sinai?") Anyway, it seems I must see him Before he would authorize. I resisted immediately. Told staff Dr. was blackmailing me and I'm a patient there for a few years, he told me he would never do this, blah blah. I said I will leave the practice immediately and seek another Dr. (My area is Flooded with Dr.s This guy is one of the few American born Dr.s around) if he didn't agree to giving me one month, no refills, and I would schedule myself next week. Took her talking to him twice (hence, God on Mt. Sinai had to be referenced to show him I won't be ordered to do something that could wait less than a week), made sure he knew all I said. So, yeah, I "won" but it didn't have to be that way. I mean, you never know who you're actually dealing with and I won't be disrespected. I never got pushed around until I became an old sick person. Had to make Pepper's Last Stand. I am just drained.

Hi John, welcome aboard, sorry you had to endure a terrible experience with your doctor who seemed to a huge chip on his shoulder
You won't find that here, trust me,you'll meet wonderful group of people from around the world which makes this forum unique.

I got this speech from my ortho surgeon that I saw this week. As in I need to go to the city hospital to have the surgery since I am ”medically fragile”. But doctor they have Covid, you do not have Covid patients at this smaller hospital.

It is completely safe. The Covid patients are on a different floor. In fact, I just had my wife have surgery there. Oh. Well. I just bought a bridge in Brooklyn. 😂

Not patient shaming, IMO, just doctor stupidity. Welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry that happened to you.
(BTW Welcome to our group)
Over here things are a bit more civil, I usually get a phone consultation for my scripts which the doctor sends straight to my pharmacist, and then the pharmacist delivers them straight to my doorstep.
Once again I'm so sorry this happened to you, some doctors really do have a God complex.

The only reason the doctor bullies patients into a visit is because if you don't see them, they can't bill Medicare for a visit. And they also lose an opportunity for an inflated cost for the visit. Of course, they won't admit that; instead, they'll say, "We really care about you, so we can't just refill your prescription without monitoring your condition." I think most patients fall for that line.

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry you had this experience with the doctor. We are not allowed face to face doctor visits here; Dr calls on phone and we discuss the situation and what treatment we need. I hope you wore a mask as we cannot go into any 'buildings' like stores, malls or xray offices without one.

My doctor refills my prescriptions without any problems and I get the 90 day refills

You can't walk two blocks in my area without seeing 5 or more, or much more, doctors in a practice with other doctors. If I were dependent on this doctor due to living rural or something, then I would have made sure sooner about the meds and be ready to do that. Since I'm not, since I'm real stressed right now for reasons that should be obvious, I ain't gettin' pushed around. 👎😡
