Have You Shrunk With Age?

More than a year ago I got measured at my gastroenterologist's office as part of the pre-exam process. The nurse told me I had shrunk 1/4 of an inch. I wasn't too surprised because I had started noticing my sleeves were longer to the point I had to either roll them up or hem them. I read that shrinking as we age is not uncommon. What about you...have you shrunk?

I think I have. I weigh less and some old jeans I have that were tight around the waste now fit better. I don't think it's a loss of fat by what I can grab around my midsection. It's about the same.

Yes I think I have because some of my jeans seems to be a little longer on me..it could be because I have been wearing them almost exclusively with trainers.. rather than heels.. but I feel I might have lost a little bit of height..

I'm young yet so haven't noticed any noticeable shrinkage, and dear husband is the same, but neither of us have had our heights documented so we have no way of knowing.

I remember when I was younger, my height being 5'5", I don't go to doctors often at all, but last time which was several years ago, it was 5' 4 1/2". I haven't noticed anything in my daily life that indicates I'm any shorter than I was, but I do believe many of us shrink a bit in height during old age....okay with that.

Wow pepper, that's a lot of height. How tall were you in the beginning ?
Well, I always lied about my height. I told people I was 5'4" when I was actually 5' 3 and 3/4 ". But now I am 5 feet tall and not so optimistic I wouldn't shrink more. The stuff between the discs of my spine have worn away and I think it began almost 20 years ago (not positive) after a severe bout of sciatica.

At 78, I have lost about 1/2 inch, my 73 year old brother has lost about the same, but my heavy smoking, heavy drinking youngest brother has lost 4 inches at the age of 71. I know that it is common as we get older, but there must be a lot of factors that come into this equation.
