Was there anything from the past that kept you watching the TV for days

For me, it was the JFK assassination and 911. I also watched a lot of the coverage of Princess Diana's death.
Have to say as much as I loathe royalty, I remained glued to the television when Diana, was killed.

Remember this sickening event?
James Bulger was killed one month short of his third birthday in 1993
It was a murder that shocked Britain and the rest of the World
James was tortured to death by two 10-year-olds Robert Thompson and Jon Venables
who left him on a railway track to be hit by a train which cut James legs off
Would you believe these 2 'monsters' were later 'transported' to Australia and given new identities 🤬
actually we have no idea where one of them is, and you may be right that he's in Australia... and for sure we know they were both given new identities.. which maddened all of us of course, ... however I can tell you that Jon Venables , despite being released from a young offenders institute for this killing, went onto re-offend time and time again..all child related sexual porn etc... and keeps being re-sentenced here, time a and again... which is where he currently is right now... in prison

Quote... : In late June 2019, it was reported that British officials had considered resettling Venables in either Canada, Australia or New Zealand due to the high costs behind protecting his anonymity. British authorities had reportedly spent £65,000 in legal fees to keep Venables' identity a secret.[129][130] In response to media coverage, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern remarked that Venables would need an exemption under the Immigration Act and that he should not "bother applying"

Texas. Tower, 1966-the first of the sniper killings, could not believe it occurred, watch every item on TV for days

#2, Louis Hastings killed 6 people in McCarthy, Alaska in 1983, the total population of town was 22.
I don't know why it sticks in my mind, it was so bizarre. TV people alleged he wanted to wipe out ever member of the town.

Then mass killings became almost common-no longer do we have the shock, the search for understanding...
The Sandy Hook murders should be remember by all, how do you prevent such evil?

911. And I'm also a fan of high-profile criminal trials; I was glued to the Jodi Arias trial for the murder of Travis Alexander. Likewise Casey Anthony (who is guilty of murdering that child so another miscarriage of justice.)

Take thread a bit south for a moment:

Don't loathe royalty, wonder about it, the why of it escapes me.
They bring in a large amount of money to the U.K. just by 'being'
It's okay i guess, they have been around a long time, the citizens seem to think it's ok.
But, the expenditure of funds, that's the kick in the head.

However, can we throw rocks with TV shows like the Kardashians(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)

Elian Gonzalez, the state of Florida vs. his father over custody of Elian. So happy when father and son reunited. Year 2000, I think.

Of course, President Kennedy, his brother Robert, Martin Luther King, Space Shuttle Challenger, Chicago Seven, O.J. Oh, why go on. You guys remember all these.

The Beatles!
space shuttle! we were at waterville valley NH on ski vacation with friends. a few of us had just walked into lodge to get coffee/cocoa to deafening silence. Christa McAuliffe was from next town over.

Alex Haley's Roots!
loved that. I was only 21, newly married with a new baby when that was on TV here.. we were living in Naval Married quarters, and had a TV with only 2 channels that worked ( second-hand TV being newly married).. and my new husband was away at sea.. and living in a brand new town where I knew no-one at the time..

I was glued to each episode of Roots each week...

News events: many of those already mentioned + the release of the American Hostages in Iran

Mini-series: Flambards in the 70's-- reworked whole weekly schedules so as not to miss this! lol
