Comic Strip Nostalgia

I remember all of the above. There was also "Gordo" about a group of Mexicans. "We can't be broke there are still some checks left."

How many of you remember these comic strips that I recall from the 1940's?

The Katzenjammer Kids

Dick Tracy

Smilin' Jack

Terry and the Pirates

Mutt & Jeff

Nancy & Sluggo

Blondie & Dagwood

I remember many more, but I don't want to hog the thread, so let's see your old favorites!

Cheers,
HDH
I remember them all!

Anyone recall the Dotty Dripple rip-off of Blondie and Dagwood? Even as a kid, this didn't seem ethical to me.

Dotty Dripple (Character) - Comic Vine (gamespot.com)

Dotty was the uber mom of the Dripple family in a newspaper comic strip that started in the 40’s as a rather blatant rip-off… was inspired by the older strip Blonde, at times it seemed almost to the point of copyright infringement.

At times was hard to tell the different between the two, to the point of the Dripple’s even having a dog whose expressions reflected what was going on with the family.

The Dripples appeared both in a number of Dell 4-colors, as did their teenage daughter Taffy alone, and their own comic for a short while.

The Dripple family however did not have the semi-zaniness of the Bumsteds.

Frankly the Dripples were just plain dull.

(There are two threads of comic strips)
Must be telepathy, Hal. I was just thinking this morning about the Katzenjammer Kids. When I was little before I learned to read, I thought it was the "cats and jammie kids"
Oh yea, it was the Cats and Jammer for those of us who's reading ability was limited.
As mentioned, we were young, learning to read- couldn't grasp several of the strips.

Couldn't grasp what 'Brenda Starr Reporter' was about. She had a mysterious boyfriend with a eye-patch...
what was that about?

Aunt Bea Posted 'Maggie and Jiggs-' liked that because the pictures were big.
Why was Maggie so opposed to Jiggs eating corn beef and cabbage?

Has 'The Phantom' been mentioned?

Comic Books: 'Plastic Man' and his sidekick, and oriental guy with a huge belly, the buttons on his shirt keep flying off due to pressure of his
belly.
'The Heap' an intriguing figure than only appeared on occasion. Young WW I pilot who crashed in swamp, returned to life
as a moss covered Swamp Creature -now he is on TV in an updated character.,

I remember every single one that has been mentioned. My paper now has a new version of Nancy, who has been resurrected. I don't usually read it, but I see her and Aunt Fritzi. I don't know if Sluggo is part of the new one.

My all time favorite strip was The Far Side. That doesn't go back to the 40's, though.

Aw c'mon, you know. Right? Because cabbage gives one gas.
I thought it was because it was served in saloons and lower caste food joints ( i think?).
Maggie was hell on Jiggs drinking, though the strip did not allude to his being a drunk (This was the evaluation of an Al-Non group😉)
