If You Could Easily Afford Servants Would You Hire Any?

I am watching an old 1931 movie now like many movies back then the rich always had servants in the script. I know the responses here will reflect how you were brought up but in general the idea of servant is very foreign to me. In my every day life I have never liked the idea of people doing even the simplest of things for me. Growing up my next door neighbors had a maid. There were both parents and two boys and three girls living in a very modest three bedroom house and I never understood why they could not do the simplest of chores.

Having someone do cleaning I can understand. Perhaps people don't have time or when older, it's hard on them. Good house cleaners can make good money also.

If I came into a large amount of money, I'd hire someone to pack up all my stuff and then unpack it at my new home in town. (I now live in the country) I'd hire a driver and a yard person and also a housekeeper.

They are not employees, they all run their own businesses offering domestic services. I call them fairies in jest, but they do a good job.
Thinking about it, it's years since I washed a car, there's a local business that charges about eight pounds for a decent car wash. We still have a regular window cleaner, I've never thought of him as a fairy but he turns up regularly to clean our thirty or so windows.

I wouldn’t mind someone to clean and do yard work but I like to do my own cooking. And having watched shows like Downton Abbey where the gentry have a servant dress them... I couldn’t stand that!

Someone to drive me wherever I wanted to go would be great, and a cook/ meal planner would be nice too.

Money is made round to go round and I would be prepared to pay very well for services received.

Almost exactly what I'd love to do except instead of the yard person--because I'd be fine without a yard--I'd have a cook.

I would love someone to do my laundry,I detest dragging it all to the laundromat and all that goes along with that!!!!
If I was really,really rich I'd just throw it all out and have Amazon bring me new stuff monthly,LOLOLOLOL

@Linda .. after years of living in a large house (9 rooms) and trying to keep up with everything .... my new small apartment has many built-ins everywhere, and because of that and the way it's set up, I really seem to enjoy keeping it in good order.
I let my Robot vacuum cleaner help me too ...lol
